Everyone loves a reunion, and it's extra special when it’s 60 years in the making. In a full-circle moment, Arnold Schwarzenegger reunited with the model from his renowned 1966 shoot.

On March 30, the bodybuilding legend received an Honorary Doctorate from the Ulster University (UU). But the doctorate wasn't the only reward he received in Belfast. He was also taken on a nostalgic trip when his 1966 photo was brought to life, and he reunited with the model he shared the picture with.

Also present at the occasion were Sandra Weir, one of the two women from the photograph, and Roy Smyth, the photographer. When a reporter asked Weir if she ever thought the photo would become so famous, she had a humble reply:

"Never, never. Well, we were working away, you know, worried about getting our targets every week.  And the photographer came into the room, and he says, here, do you want to get a wee picture taken with one of the guys? I say, alright. So we went out with them."

She added that Smyth had asked her to bring another person for the shoot. So she asked her friend Deirdre Cullen, the other model in the photo, to accompany her. She revealed that they ended up having a good time, despite not understanding a word Schwarzenegger was saying. Cullen was not present at the event.

When asked about her reunion with the Austrian Oak, she said, "I never thought he'd ever see me again, you know. But he remembered me, and he was very nice."

1996 was the first time the then 19-year-old Schwarzenegger had arrived in Belfast. He was invited by Ivan Dunbar, a Mr. Universe judge, to participate in a bodybuilding competition. The young penniless bodybuilder had stayed at Dunbar's house. And according to him, despite not knowing English much, had great charisma

Schwarzenegger was also reunited with Dunbar's daughter at the UU reception. The reunion was a small part of Arnie's visit, where he had come to receive the special honor.

It's Dr. Schwarzenegger for you!

Schwarzenegger, now 78, received an honorary doctorate from Ulster University on 30 March 2026 for his outstanding contributions to public service, environmental advocacy, and the arts.

The university praised his journey from champion bodybuilder to Hollywood superstar and Governor of California, noting how he has consistently used his global platform for philanthropic causes and environmental activism.

The 7-time Mr. Olympia was invited to visit the students and athletes on campus, who were more than thrilled to meet him.

His visit ultimately left a lasting impression. This served as both inspiration and a reminder that ambition, discipline, and purpose can shape a legacy far beyond anyone can imagine.
