In a world filled with negativity, Arnold Schwarzenegger still manages to keep his confidence steady by following a simple approach. At 78, the Hollywood icon believes confidence isn't found, it's built through small, consistent victories.
According to Schwarzenegger, the secret to still feeling confident in a world full of negativity and uncertainty is his belief that confidence is built through measurable wins. It is an approach that has guided him throughout his bodybuilding, film, and political career.
"You only can get confidence if you have some victories. So I always believe in going all out and then having victories. And when you have a little victory, if it's the tiniest little victory, that gives you confidence that you actually are in charge of yourself."
Drawing from his experience, the Terminator told K.T. Guttenberg that early victories in minor bodybuilding and weightlifting competitions built his confidence and ultimately led to larger achievements, including world championships. He carried that confidence into other fields, including acting and public office.
Schwarzenegger also emphasized the role of failure. He remembered his unsuccessful elections and underperforming films, and stated that although setbacks are inevitable, they can be more educational than success. He believes that failure only overpowers a person when they remain inactive.
"After you fall, you get up, and you dust yourself off, and you say, I'm back. I'm back."
Arnold continues to incorporate his confident personality in his upcoming projects, with his rumored return to the Predator franchise. He is also advocating for mental fitness via his Pump Club newsletter, where he likes to share his 78-year-old wisdom.
Arnold Doesn't Let Failure Get to Him
In one of his newsletters, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed how he motivates himself to stay energized during physical training and in his personal life. His advice to everyone is to keep building new habits and sticking to your promises and resolutions.
According to the bodybuilding legend, "You are not a failure unless you completely give up." So, whenever you are demotivated and feel like giving up, just remember the reason you wanted to make the change.
He also advised people not to overwork themselves with multiple tasks. He believes in handling one task at a time for perfection. Doing things this way is also a lot less stressful.
