At 78, Arnold Schwarzenegger continues to motivate himself as his inspiration doesn't come from past bodybuilding titles. In a recent video, the Hollywood icon revealed his fitness journey is fueled by the success stories of people using his app.

Whether it's consistently hitting the gym, attending major events, or hosting the Arnold Sports Festival with the same vigor, he keeps proving that age is just a number.

Many fans wonder what motivates him at his age. Schwarzenegger recently shared a clip on his YouTube channel on March 12, 2025. In the clip, he was asked the same question at an event last year.

While answering the question, he said, “Now you know I have this app, the pump app, and the amount of kind of stories that I read every day to me that is true inspiration.”

Here he is talking about the Pump club, which the legend himself launched in January 2023, featuring a podcast, app, and daily newsletter. In this app or newsletter, the team motivates people by sharing inspiring stories.

Schwarzenegger later said, “I see people that have never lifted weights and then all of a sudden they're doing like, 270 lbs deadlift.

There are people that we have that are 60 years old and start lifting…. start improving their health and improving the fitness level”.

The Austrian Oak also admitted that resistance and weight training make people feel happy not only physically but also mentally.

Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “When I drive to the gym…. when I go down with the bicycle to Gold Gym I feel like I'm driving in a black and white movie.

But when I'm finished working out, and I go back home, I feel like I'm driving in a color movie, it all of a sudden everything gets brighter, everything gets cheery, everything looks better”.

Even according to Mayo Clinic, working out in any form can help relieve stress. Being active boosts one’s feel-good endorphins.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s current routine of working out

In the same video, Mr. Olympia admitted 7 times that he loves working out, even at this age.

Schwarzenegger still uses weight and said, “even though I only do it for 45 minutes now and with much lighter weight, but I'm ad****ed to it, and I love it”.

Even in 2025, he told Business Insider that during his peak, he sometimes trained for 5 hours a day with heavy weights. But now he said, “The machines are better simply because there are certain movements I can't do because of shoulder problems or knee problems”.

So, his current mantra is to be consistent and focus on simple movements.

But it seems his light-weight movement routine is going to change quickly, as on March 19, The National Enquirer reported that Schwarzenegger is pushing himself hard to the limit to return to his peak physical shape for the Conan sequel.

At 78, Schwarzenegger's approach shows that motivation can evolve toward consistency and finding a new purpose.
