With a rich history in Hollywood, we can say that Arnold Schwarzenegger has many stories to tell, and one of those interesting stories involves Grace Jones.

On March 1, an X update from All The Right Movies displayed a section of Schwarzenegger's 1984 appearance on Late Night with David Letterman. It featured a candid conversation between Arnold and Letterman, where 'The Austrian Oak' revealed some experiences from the sets of Conan the Destroyer involving Jones.

The conversation started when Letterman tried to extract information from Arnold by saying that, when Grace Jones visited the show, she gave the impression that she was difficult to control in the film. In response, the 7-time Mr. Olympia jokingly said, “That's actually putting it nicely…. Well, she's, can you say, a wild beast?”

He then continued by saying, “I hate to say that…. Well, first of all, most of the things I cannot say on air that happened, because she's too wild”.

It turned out that while performing her stunts with her 6-foot-long stick, Jones would always hit someone unintentionally.

When the information invoked laughter from the audience, Arnold continued by saying, “The director went to her after the first hit, after she knocked the first guy out, and he was hospitalized for three weeks”.

According to Arnold, the director said, “Listen, Grace, the situation with movies is this way. You pretend that you're hitting. But you don't actually hit somebody over the head, that he passes out”. Schwarzenegger also revealed, “She hospitalized probably 12 people”.

Apart from sharing his memories with Grace Jones, in his Netflix documentary, Arnold also explained his rigorous training process for the movie.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Went Through Demanding Training Sessions for Conan the Destroyer

Signing the role in Conan the Barbarian as the main character was a big break for Arnold. Many criticized him for his bodybuilding physique. However, it was director John Milius who believed in the legendary bodybuilder’s persona.

However, later Schwarzenegger revealed that shooting for the movie was tough as the director asked him to be “out there in the cold, freezing a** off”.

He then revealed, “I did all my own stunts. There was no one around with the body…. So therefore, I had to do everything myself. It was fine on the first take. Then we did the second take. Third take, fourth take. And eventually, I was now really bl******”.

For the role, he trained in several activities, including combat, such as:

  • Samurai training
  • Grappling training
  • Broadsword training
  • Horseback riding

Well, Jones's act of injuring crew members and Schwarzenegger's hard work finally paid off as Conan the Destroyer performed well at the box office.
