Arnold's ex-wife, Maria Shriver, gives a special message on World Down Syndrome Day

Maria Shriver has long been a champion for people with disabilities. Inspired by her mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics, she continues that legacy, now sharing a heartfelt message on “World Down Syndrome Day.”

Through her Instagram handle, the former First Lady of California shared a detailed message about a girl with Down syndrome who was denied a margarita due to the assumption that she couldn’t handle it.

The video further highlights how people with Down syndrome are often underestimated and looked down on. Be it sports, education, or physical activity, they are always shunned by higher authorities.

In the captions, Shriver wrote, “On this World Down Syndrome Day, let this video be a reminder to stop making preconceived notions that limit others. Let this be a reminder not to assume we know best for someone by limiting what they can or cannot do."

She further added, “Instead, let us try to be better about understanding others and listening. Let us give opportunities where they may not have always existed. Let us try to open the door rather than shutting it. Let us offer a possibility where maybe none has ever been.”

Through the message, Shriver continues her work to support and normalize the lives of these individuals. That said, while she is busy with her work, she certainly finds time to enjoy herself with her family.

Having been separated since 2021, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver rarely take each other’s names. However, when it comes to their kids, they set their differences aside to keep them happy.

Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger reunite after years

On March 16, their daughter Katherine shared a glimpse from a family vacation in the mountains via her Instagram handle.

The photos featured selfies with her other three siblings, husband Chris Pratt, and with both her parents, Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, in a heartwarming moment. She captioned it with, “Fam ski club.”

Given that, what are your thoughts on Maria Shriver's work for people with special needs?
