Arnold’s Son Joe Baena Revealed Why He Avoided the Schwarzenegger Name

Although Joseph Baena and Arnold Schwarzenegger share an ideal father-son relationship, Baena has never used his father’s surname, and he doesn't make a fuss of it.

Back in 2022, the Gunner star sat down with Sofia and Sistine Stallone on the Unwaxed podcast, and there he opened up about why he never uses his father’s name to get ahead.

Baena expressed that he never really put that much thought into using his father’s name. He said, “I mean, I think really the thing is that I just haven't really focused on changing it [his surname]. I'm doing my own thing. I haven't really thought about it that much, like, 'Oh, I need to change my last name.' I have a last name already.”

Even though Baena chose not to adopt his father’s famous surname, he has followed a similar path in entertainment. Like his father, the bodybuilder-turned-actor has primarily appeared in action films, which include Chariot, Bully High, Called to Duty: The Last Airshow, Gunner, and Encounter, among others.

Baena understands that his father has already made significant inroads for him, but he remains focused and adamant about carving his own path. Speaking with Good Morning Britain back in 2024, he explained, “I think the main thing is I’m trying to do things on my own and pursue my career with my will, my determination, my work ethic.”

However, despite not using the Schwarzenegger surname, Baena considers Arnold to be a role model for himself.

Joseph Baena Views Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Role Model

One area where Baena compares himself with his father is fitness. Both train together from time to time, and Baena adopts some of Arnold’s classic poses, drawing comparisons to his father. Baena has described his dad as "the best training partner in the world."

In a conversation with Loni Love and Morgan Stewart on E! Online, Baena expressed that he looks up to his father a lot. He said, “I mean, my dad is a stallion. He's a man's man, I like to think, and I look up to him a lot… So in a way, he's influenced a lot of things: the path that I have taken with acting, with fitness, and my physique, and the many other things that I'm doing.”

Although he doesn’t share a very good relationship with his other siblings, he still likes to talk about them and considers them close.

So, are you expecting to watch him in a movie with Arnold soon?
