At 69, Denise Austin Shares 4 Strength-Training Exercises for Arms and Abs

At 69, fitness coach Denise Austin has strong arms and toned abs that could put most people to shame. She has spent over 4 decades training others to get stronger and fitter. She recently opened up and revealed four simple strength-training moves that she swears by: all you need is a pair of dumbbells.

One of the best pieces of advice she offers is not to overcomplicate fitness. This advice resonates with most busy individuals who might not have the time or energy to hit the gym daily. She emphasizes the ease of the four exercises: wide-stance standing twist, front and side raise, tricep kickback with knee lift, and standing oblique crunches.

‘I’ve got four great moves that you can do for your abs and your arms,’ she exclaimed. ‘Double the workout in half the time! Strengthening two major muscle groups at once!’

The secret, she reveals, is to keep your core engaged from the very start.

‘Feel like you are “zipping up your abs”, and as you breathe out and exhale, feel like you are tightening a corset,’ she advises audiences.

Of course, Austin also follows a clean, healthy diet that helps her maintain her strength and incredible physique.

A Look into What Denise Austin Eats to Stay Fit at 69

Austin’s typical day is filled with nutritious, balanced meals made right in her own kitchen. According to her website, she enjoys a filling, energy-boosting breakfast. This includes fresh fruit, oatmeal, peanut butter, and one egg.

Lunch is generally packed with protein and carbs like tuna, salmon, and a healthy salad. She enjoys whipping up interesting salad dressings, combining avocado, roasted soybeans, and her homemade sauces.

Dinner is simple, consisting of a grilled steak with vegetables or a poached chicken breast over brown rice and stir-fried veggies.

“What you eat and how you eat are the keys to unlocking the door to weight loss, more energy, a faster metabolism, and even glowing skin… a healthy meal plan should be part of everyone’s lifestyle for these reasons and more!”

Austin admits that she loves snacking. However, she ensures her kitchen is stocked with healthy, nutritious snacks that won’t make her feel guilty afterwards. This includes hummus, crudites, and fresh fruits with yogurt or cottage cheese. She also enjoys nut butters with apple slices- the perfect sweet snack without any guilt.

Austin proves that age is just a number. Staying healthy and fit is achievable at any age, especially with healthy, sustainable habits and regular movement, no matter how little it is.
