Several fans have enjoyed the Los Angeles Dodgers' outfielder Enrique Hernandez's performances on the diamond, but not many know what he does to keep himself in playing condition at 34.

While speaking to US Weekly, Hernández admitted that staying in shape is not as effortless as it used to be, now that he is in his mid-30s. He said, “I try to stay consistent, but at the same time, you have to change your habits.”

He has gradually learned that his body does not recover the same way as it used to during his younger years in the league.  He stated, “A couple of years ago, I used to just show up and start lifting without even stretching or activating. These days, if I do that, I’m probably going to tweak something that’s going to linger for a few weeks.”

Hernández also compared his younger self to an “Energizer bunny.” He explained, “I would just take an hour break before the game, and I was ready to go for game time.” But now the scenario has changed, forcing him to prioritize his movements before and during a game to avoid injuries.

In a video posted by “batboysbaseball” on April 1, 2025, the Puerto Rican player talked about his pregame preparation, which he had been practicing since the middle of the 2023 season. He said, “Pregame meditation. I do a little mental imagery that my mental performance coach prepares for me, and it's kinda what I use to like cut my clowness and get into game mode.”

However, on a 2024 post, the .236 career batting average holder revealed he goes for sauna and cold shower sessions for post-game recovery.

Apart from recovery and pre-game meditation, another thing that fuels his performance and busy lifestyle is his dietary choices.

What does Enrique Hernandez’s diet look like?

According to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ sports science department, Enrique Hernandez consumes a total of 2800 calories in a day, as audited by team dietitian Jessica Katz.

Here's a look at the nutritional specifications of his daily diet.

  • Carbohydrates - 310g
  • Protein - 165g
  • Fats - 75g

Hernandez consumes a “Caribbean Fusion” diet, which includes:

  • Grilled mahi-mahi
  • Guava glaze (It has polyphenols, which assist in insulin sensitivity.)
  • Plantains (provide slow-digesting carbs)

This balanced diet not only offers flavors but also supports his overall health and provides energy. After 7 pm, he avoids sugar and tracks his diet with an app called “MyFitnessPal.”

Along with his highly energetic, packed schedule, he likes to walk 13000 steps a day to improve functional movement in his daily life.

So, now that you know about Hernandez's fitness regimen and diet, for how many years are you expecting him to continue in the MLB?
