Boxer Canelo Alvarez Helps His Trainer Open a New Gym In San Diego

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has been training with Eddy Reynoso for decades, and recently, he was present for a milestone moment in Reynoso's career.
Since 2005, Eddy Reynoso has stood beside boxer Canelo Alvarez, training him into becoming one of the most recognized fighters in the boxing world. And earlier this week, Alvarez inaugurated Eddy Reynoso's Escuela de Boxeo (School of Champions), his new gym, in San Diego, California.
Reynoso is a boxing coach and manager certified by the Comisión Nacional de Cultura Física y Deporte (CONADE), Mexico’s official physical education body. Thanks to him, Alvarez won world titles in four weight classes, including one at super middleweight.
Alvarez inaugurated the gym alongside Reynoso's father, Chepo Reynoso. School of Champions is an addition to Reynoso's already established House of Boxing gym, also in San Diego. The trainer-boxer duo goes way back, so it was only fitting that Alvarez was the one to inaugurate his gym.
But in September last year, the partnership was eclipsed by some rumors of a fallout after Canelo suffered a defeat against Terrance Crawford. Soon, the rumors were put to rest when the Mexican fighter wished his trainer on his birthday with a sweet message on November 6, via X (Twitter).
"Feliz cumpleaños apá @CANELOTEAM que cumplas muchos muchos más. Te quiero mucho, gracias por todo siempre." This is translated to, “Happy birthday, Dad @CANELOTEAM! May you have many, many more. I love you so much, thank you for everything, always."
Last year's Crawford defeat may not have affected their union, as Alvarez now prepares for the next bout.
When is Canelo Alvarez's Next Bout?
Alvarez will be back in the ring on September 12, in Saudi Arabia, on a card titled ‘Mexico Against the World.’ He will return a year after his loss to Crawford, and the event will feature many top fighters. Talking about this return to Boxing News 24/7, he said,
“Honestly, I feel very good. I’ve been training … and I feel extremely good and happy because sometimes that’s what you need.”
But against whom he will be clashing is not disclosed yet. Although he did say that there are a lot of opponents, and "let’s see who’s the best, but always, choosing the best, and above all, that he’s a champion."
Who do you think Canelo Alvarez will go against? Let us know in the comments.
