Boxing World Champion David Benavidez's Complete Workout To Build Muscles & Stay In Shape

David Benavidez is one of the most fluid boxers in the community, with crazy footwork. And much of his skill comes from his ability to move, made possible by the shredded, powerful physique he has built.

His training regimen is built around functional, repetitive training, including shadowboxing, hitting the mitts, and heavy bag workouts.

Benavidez's workout system, conditioning, and everything showed up ahead of his May 2 cruiserweight debut against Zurdo Ramirez on DAZN PPV.

Speaking to DAZN News, Benavidez described what he called the happiest training camp of his career, one built entirely around building muscle and letting the weight come off naturally.

His camp started at 210 lbs. He trained thrice a day and ran 200 miles straight, making sure to complete a minimum of 200 sparring rounds in around five months.

"I already built the muscle. I have the stamina. I'm going to have the speed. I have the power," he told DAZN News. "There is no weight cut. It's just been training and getting ready for the fight. I've never felt something like this."

For a fighter who spent years draining down to 168 and 175, the shift was significant.

"I usually waste that on the weight cuts. I'm going to be able to go into the reserve, and that is going to make the biggest difference in this fight," Benavidez added.

And the results showed. Benavidez made history, becoming the first boxer to win world titles at super middleweight, light heavyweight, and cruiserweight by defeating Ramirez via 6th-round knockout.

To maintain such a physique while preserving the speed and agility the sport demands is not an easy feat. While the gym sculpts the muscle, nutrition is where the work gets locked in.

The diet that fuels Benavidez inside the ring

The boxing star usually weighs around 200 lbs, making intense weight cuts a routine. Powering through the fight camps, Benavidez prioritizes low-calorie, high-return meals.

That includes staples like whey protein and creatine from his own brand.

Team Benavidez claims that every scoop has 25g of premium whey protein, which catalyzes muscle recovery and produces natural BCAA to reduce fatigue. According to them, just 134 calories with low fat and low sugar.

As someone who has struggled with weight in the past, Benavidez's plate usually features a steady diet of protein and carbohydrates for lasting energy.

However, before fight weeks, he significantly cuts down calories, upping his protein intake instead. Ahead of his Caleb Plant fight in 2023, Benavidez ate three eggs for breakfast, and fish for lunch and dinner.

Benavidez, at 27, has proven himself to be one of the best in business in the super middleweight division. To him, the physique is the product, and the training and nutrition are the process.
