Brazilian UFC Fighter Paulo Costa Pushes Weight and Limits in Tough Gym Session
The Brazilian UFC fighter, Paulo Costa, may not have a fight scheduled right now. But that isn't stopping him from maintaining fighting shape and condition, as he recently hit the gym for a strength workout.
On June 25, 'Borrachinha' took to his Instagram account to share a video of his training session. The activity that Costa performed was an attempt to improve his strength, cardiovascular capacity, and striking. The UFC middleweight-turned-light heavyweight pushed a weighted sled across the turf to boost his strength and cardio.
However, he took three stops in between and threw a combination of shadow punches to work on his striking skills. The English translation of Costa's Portuguese caption read, "Pushing weight, pushing limits. Heavy functional workout today."
Costa earned a thrilling victory against Azamat Murzakanov in his previous fight at UFC 327. After a strong start against the Russian, 'The Eraser' ended the show with a head kick TKO in the third round of the encounter.
With this, Costa began his run as a light heavyweight with a victory, but his first encounter in the division also highlighted a major issue. The Brazilian had never really looked out of breath while fighting as a middleweight, despite going for five-rounders.
But while his fight against Murzakanov was a three-round encounter, he still looked gassed out from the latter half of the second round.
So, his workout seems to be well-suited to his requirements, as the weighted sled pushes are one of the best exercises to improve strength and cardio simultaneously.
But there's more than just working out in the gym that helps him maintain his fighting shape.
Paulo Costa's diet helps him maintain his shape
While Costa is known for his special drink, the 'Secret Juice,' it isn't anything that can get him into trouble regarding PED usage. Reportedly, it contains a mixture of lemon juice, ginger, and cinnamon powder. The mixture provides his body with thermogenics, helping him burn more fat naturally.
However, Costa is also conscious of his diet, which helps him stay in shape and subject his opponents to trouble inside the octagon. As reported by Fitnessreaper, here's a list of all the food items that the Brazilian fighter consumes in a day through various meals.
- Broccoli
- Sweet Potatoes
- Manioc
- Chicken
- Fish
- Fruits
- Para Chestnuts & Cashews
- Pork Meat
- Tilapia instead of salmon
- A spoon of coconut oil before the gym
When do you think Costa will return to the octagon for his next encounter? Do you think his training will be enough to earn him another victory?
