Conor McGregor explains the reality of competing at 170 lbs ahead of Max Holloway rematch
The Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor warned his opponent, Max Holloway, ahead of the rematch on July 12 at UFC 329 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, United States.
On July 2, the official Instagram handle of “The Mac Life” shared a post. In the video, McGregor was asked about his opponent in the upcoming fight. “What do you think Max doesn't understand about fighting at 170? What is he not realizing until he gets in there and actually tries it?”
“Listen, there's a different thud when you fight against me,” said the former two-division champion.
McGregor was known for his counter prowess, power, and timing. He picked precise shots that shut the lights out of his opponents, even at featherweight (145 lbs).
Now, he is fighting at welterweight (25 lbs above the featherweight limit), and he believes that the power has increased sharply with the weight as well.
But still, the Irish fighter puts his heart and soul into his training. He shared glimpses of his training with his fans on social media.
On June 30, he posted a carousel on Instagram, captioning it “💪 12 days! BELIEVE!”
In the photos, he was seen sparring, which included:
- Footwork
- Punching practice
- High-knee practice
In another post shared on June 28, he was seen doing
- Pad work
- Grappling
- Groundwork
- Ground-and-pound
- Footwork
The duo first fought in 2013 in the featherweight division, where the Irish fighter dominated the bout.
In his career, McGregor has fought 3 fights at 170 lbs, in which he holds a 1-loss and 2-win record. On the other hand, his opponent has never been in that division.
Now, after more than a decade, they will face each other in the Welterweight division.
With this said, the fight camp diet for the welterweight jump will definitely be much different than his usual camp diet.
Conor McGregor’s diet during fight camp
McGregor has not shared his specific diet for the fight. But according to ManofMany, he eats a very healthy, nutritious, and protein-rich diet for his fight camp.
His typical day of diet looks like:
Pre-breakfast

It's important to note that the portions would be bigger due to the increased mass.
