Conor McGregor Spotted Practicing Takedowns at Training Camp for Max Holloway Rematch
After 13 years, Conor McGregor and Max Holloway will meet again—but in a division Holloway has never fought. Before the highly anticipated rematch “McGregor vs Holloway 2,” training footage of McGregor leaked from his camp and went viral.
On July 6, the official Instagram handle “Fight IQ 👊 MMA News” shared a carousel featuring an image and a video, captioning it, “Conor McGregor is heavily preparing for UFC 329, and everyone says he is fully locked in.”
In the video, the fighter was seen practicing a takedown with his training partner. In fact, his coach stated that the two-time UFC champion has never seen a fighter who is better or more motivated.
The post further reads, “One piece of information that has leaked is that Conor McGregor has been preparing. And has been practicing takedowns for quite a long time already.”
The interesting thing is that Holloway is not known for his grappling skills, while McGregor has delivered only 5 takedowns in his career, 4 of which were against Holloway in his first fight in 2013 in the Featherweight division.
Now, after 13 years, they will face each other in the Welterweight division on July 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, United States. Holloway has never fought in the Welterweight division, while McGregor competed there in 2016 and 2020.
McGregor dominated their first featherweight bout, but Holloway's records make a rematch far tougher. Some records include the longest winning streak (13) and the most knockout victories (9), apart from holding the FW title.
That’s why McGregor was seen putting in a lot of effort at the training camp.
Conor McGregor’s Training for the Rematch With Max Holloway
According to Yahoo Sports, as McGregor returns to the UFC after a 5-year break and the fight date approaches, he is training hard for the fight. He regularly shares glimpses of his training with his fans online.
On July 8, he shared a post on his Instagram, captioning it “Training in my Las Vegas gym! READY.” In the photos, he was seen sparring for the match and performing moves like:
- Grappling
- Rear body lock lift
- Back control
- Front headlock
- Collar tie and wrist control
- Standing guard pass attempt
Who will win the match on July 12? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, McGregor was seen getting ready for his comeback in every way possible.
