Derek Lunsford Gets Accused of Being a ‘Boring’ Mr. Olympia Champion

Feb 11, 2026, 12:30 PM CUT

Is Derek one of the quietest Mr. Olympia champions of the modern era?

That debate gained traction after Muscle Discord Podcast host and 2x Mr. Canada Matt Tsinkorang questioned the 2-time Olympia winner’s low social media presence, arguing that his silence feels unusual and sparks doubts about his visibility within the sport.

“He barely posts to social media. He just seems like he's the most inactive Mr. Olympia champ we have to date,” said Tsinkorang.

The statement certainly holds some truth, considering that Lunsford’s last post was a day ago and the one before that was two days earlier.

On top of that, he rarely updates his Instagram story, whereas former Mr. Olympia Samson Dauda regularly shares updates about his life and makes sure his fans get what they deserve.

“Like, I think Jay Cutler is more active on social media than Derek Lunsford. Samson Douda is definitely more active on social media than Derek Lunsford. Even Phil Heath, like all these Mr. Olympias that are out, Robbie Holmes, he's killing it. He's doing all these different segments and fg all this work,” Tsinkorang said.

“Staying active or inactive on social media is a personal choice, but Tsinkorang argues that, as Mr. Olympia, it is his duty to remain as active as possible to help expand the sport.

According to him, Derek’s current approach is not enough to at least please Tsinkorang: ‘Derek has to be one of the most boring Mr Olympia we have ever had.’”

Well, Derek has been receiving a lot of criticism since winning the 2025 Mr. Olympia. Many say he doesn’t deserve the win, while others believe Hadi Choopan should have taken the title. Amidst the chaos, however, Lee Haney has stepped in to support Lunsford.

Lee Haney Says It’s “Unfair” To Judge Derek Lunsford

“I feel it’s unfair that Derek is being crucified for winning this year's Mr. Olympia. Whether we agree with his physique or not, Derek didn’t judge the show. The call was made solely by the judges. So why should he be dragged through the mud?” said Lee Haney in an Instagram post last year.

He further doubled down on the fact that, despite all the criticism, Lunsford is still one of the greatest ambassadors of the sport: “Bodybuilding is a brotherhood that should be respected amongst its peers at all costs.”

Despite the backlash, his 2025 victory is still one of the biggest of his career, but now he is looking to repeat that. Will he be able to do it? Time will tell.
