Did Gym Training Cost Tiger Woods 10 Majors? Analyst Weighs In

Analyst Brandel Chamblee has a bold theory about Tiger Woods. He believes the golf legend's intense gym training may have cost him 10 major championships. On 'The Dan Patrick Show,' Chamblee explained why Woods potentially traded longevity for strength.

On April 8, Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show.” When host Dan Patrick asked Chamblee to complete the sentence, “If Tiger never started lifting weights,” the 63-year-old commentator instantly replied, “He would have probably won 125 golf tournaments and 25 majors.”

He further said, “If you go back to when he was a wispy teenager and Jack & Arnold played with him in a practice round here, I believe it was 1995 or 1996. They said he's going to win more Master's titles than us combined.”

The retired golfers Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer have won 6 and 4 Masters titles, respectively, and in 1996, Palmer made this famous declaration.

Chamblee continues, “He traded speed for strength. Maybe it helped him think he deserved it. Maybe it helped him be intimidating. I'm sure he wanted to treat golf like a sport. So, but his body broke down pretty quickly.”

No doubt, Woods looks truly jacked, all thanks to his training and hard work. In the video, the analyst further said, “I just don't know that he was training properly or if he got the proper rest. U either way. I don't think it did him a whole lot of good.”

Despite looking jacked and ripped, Chamblee still believes that Tiger “did make the sport look cool,” and he himself looked awesome. He continued, “You can't argue with the record, 15 major championships and 82 tournaments, but the injuries, changing his golf swing, this kept him from being the all-time major winner.”

Although Woods' career in golf is one of the most sought-after careers, it has been marked by several injuries and surgeries.

Tiger Woods’ History of Injuries and Surgeries

Tiger Woods' career has been derailed by a series of injuries he has gone through over the years. At the start of his career, he suffered a knee injury, including a ruptured ACL in 2007 and arthroscopic knee surgery in 2008.

Then, in 2010, Woods underwent neck surgery. In 2014 and 2015, he had back surgeries. A major blow hit the Woods family when Tiger had a car crash in 2021 in Southern California.

Due to a chronic pain issue, Woods again went in for back surgery in 2025, which included a lumbar disc replacement. Despite so many injuries and surgeries, he still trains to maintain his fitness and stay active.

After so many injuries, instead of stepping back from sports, the 50-year-old prioritizes his health and fitness.
