Did Jordan Hutchinson's McDonald's card intake affect his competition result? Bodybuilding analysts weigh in
Jordan Hutchinson's Italy Pro appearance has raised eyebrows after fellow competitors Matthew Tsinkorang and Phil Clahar questioned the debatable McDonald's carb-load right before the competition.
The IFBB Pro bodybuilder is known for experimenting with his diet, especially utilizing fast food during peak weeks to fill out his physique. This time, that strategy seems to have backfired on him.
"I think honestly the midsection k***** him in my personal opinion," Tsinkorang pointed out on the Muscle Discord podcast. "So, I hope and pray that they don't do the McDonald's again."
Hutchinson consumed a colossal 6,652 calories just 2 weeks away from the event, including a McDouble quarter-pounder with cheese and large fries. He also had "Magic McDonald's" the night before the show. That, apparently, took a toll on his gut, which placed him third.
Clahar matched that sentiment with a personal story about his own struggles with digesting fast food.
"It's been like probably four or five months since I've had McDonald's, and I was craving it, and I drive by it, and I'm like, I'm going to get it," said Clahar. "So, I get some McDonald's and I eat it, and I'm like in pain," Clahar said.
The verdict is clear: sudden dietary changes, especially processed ones, can be taxing on the body. Not allowing proper buffer time for the carbs to recover before competition and chugging them the night before can cause issues like bubble guts.
Hutchinson knows it best. But, as it turns out, he is already vying for the next stop.
Jordan Hutchinson looks ahead to Portugal after Italy Pro setback
Jordan Hutchinson's Italy Pro run ended with mixed results, largely owing to the improper timing of the cheat meal. But the bodybuilder is already onto Portugal with unwavering conviction.
Set for July 5, the event would be a key step in proving that Hutchinson's still among the best. And it looks like he's not banking on luck for the top spot on the podium in Portugal.
"We have high expectations," shared Hutchinson via Beyond The Stage TV on Instagram. "We're definitely coming with a better peak. You guys are going to see the conditioning, you're going to see a fuller package."
As per Hutchinson, the loss at Italy Pro was merely a lesson for the future, helping him identify what "needed to change."
As for the prediction, Hutchinson likes his odds: "I'm going to win the show." The question is, will he be able to properly time his diet this time? Drop your predictions in the comments section.
