Drake’s Personal Trainer Reveals How He Plans the Workout

Aubrey Drake Graham, aka Drake, prepares for his high-energy performances by training an hour before every stage appearance. His trainer, ROXX, revealed a holistic program focused on dynamic stretching and endurance to keep the superstar in peak physical condition.

When asked about his workout method, ROXX said he follows a structured program and a body-part split.

He said, “When he’s going in for a movie role or tour, we have a program that we set to accomplish the goals at hand. Generally speaking, it’s not really bodybuilding; it’s more all-around fitness.

There was a point that I shredded him down 30 pounds because he wanted to look nice and thin in suits.”

However, ROXX also revealed that they shifted to a completely new stage of training, where Drake wanted to be bigger.

Drake’s trainer also admitted that although building endurance is a vital part of the singer’s routine, he often focuses on rest as well.

The GQ interviewer also asked ROXX how Drake stays fit and finds time to work out and go to the gym amid his busy schedule and frequent shows.

In response, he said, “He finds the time every single show. About an hour before he’s out on stage, he’s getting it in. Whether we’re working out, whether he’s doing soft tissue work, whether he’s doing stretching or doing dynamic work—we always do something to get him going before he gets on stage.”

Talking about recovery, he said, “I just keep him stretching. We have a physiotherapist who travels with us, named Charlie from London. We’re moving, we’re incorporating dynamic stretching.”

According to GQ, the following workouts were designed by ROXX for Drake:

  • Shoulder presses
  • Incline bench press
  • Pull-ups
  • Muscle-ups
  • Burpees
  • Foam rolling and soft tissue work
  • Dynamic stretching
  • Quad pulls
  • Hip extensions
  • Lunges
  • Endurance-focused training for tours
  • Mobility and recovery sessions.

Apart from working out, Drake also follows a special diet.

According to Health Digest, some of the features of the singer's diet include:

  • Drake follows a weight- and heart-friendly diet, including fruits and vegetables
  • His former personal chef, Kayla Greer, used to feed him performance-driven nutrition.

So, it is a holistic approach to diet and workouts that has helped Drake stay fit over the years.
