Elizabeth Hurley Shows Her Fit Physique As She Turns 61 Through a Fitness Lifestyle

Even at 61, Elizabeth Hurley's incredibly youthful appearance is turning a lot of heads. But while many think that she follows a strict fitness routine and diet, Hurley's toned physique stems from her daily healthy habits, instead of a strict routine.

Hurley turned 61 on June 10 and celebrated her birthday with an Instagram post that displayed her in a frolicking mood. However, her lean physical structure made it hard to believe that she wasn't in her thirties.

According to Hurley's January 2024 Instagram post, she also gets questioned a lot about what she eats to maintain such a toned physique.

And the British native didn't have any issues in sharing her secret. She said, "My mantra is: don't eat too much, too fast, too often, or too late. Or put another way, eat smaller meals, chew properly, ban snacking, and eat dinner earlier. This works for me. I don't drink weird green juices or shakes and only take supplements if a blood test tells me I'm lacking something."

Hurley elaborated on her food habits, stating, "I try to have vegetables or fruit equal to half of every plate I eat. For example, if I have a sandwich, I also eat an apple."

The 61-year-old also disclosed her distatse towards processed foods, saying, "I eat pretty much everything but only have junk food as an absolute treat, and I count junk food as anything that contains any ingredient that I don't have in my own kitchen, so that includes 'diet' and 'low-fat' everything, all ready meals, all bought sandwiches, cakes and biscuits, and all sodas.

She also said, "My best investment was a bread-maker, and I make a loaf a day. I also make cakes every weekend." So, it's apparent that Hurley prefers eating in moderation and homemade food, which, according to the Harvard Medical School, is an effective method to control obesity and live healthier.

But while Hurley's eating habits have certainly contributed to her youthful and fit physique at this age, they aren't the only factor behind it.

Hurley also talked about the second habit that helps her maintain her toned physique in the same Instagram post. Besides her healthy food habits, the 61-year-old advised her followers to "move more" to maintain a fit physique.

While most trust visiting the gym and following a workout routine for a toned physique, Hurley confessed, "I don’t go to the gym or do any set exercise," but she replaces them with being active in her daily life, which apparently has worked well enough for her to keep up an appreciable stature even at 61.

Well, Hurley's approach is also scientific, besides being easy to follow. According to Dr Folusha Oluwajana, such a method comes under the NEAT exercise branch, which refers to the energy used in carrying out any daily activity that isn't formal exercise.

Talking about its benefits, Dr. Oluwajana said, "NEAT exercise is very important as it can account for a significant portion of your total energy expenditure – the number of calories you burn in a day."

A few examples of NEAT exercises are as follows:

  • Walking your dog
  • Walking upstairs
  • Carrying your grocery shopping
  • Gardening
  • Using a standing desk
  • Walking to the shops or office instead of taking public or private transport
  • Washing your car
  • Fidgeting
  • Playing with children
