“I hate saying, ‘I like exercising,’” Jennifer Lawrence revealed during her conversation with Glamour in 2012.
The Hunger Games star confessed to disliking workouts, but that doesn’t mean she avoids them. Her slim stature is the result of consistent hard work, so what are her secrets? Let’s find out.
Jennifer Lawrence acknowledges exercise is important
While filming for X-Men, Lawrence partnered with Dalton Wong for a disciplined training routine. She says that ever since reading his book, The Feelgood Plan, she has become far more consistent and disciplined with her workouts.
“[Dalton Wong] changed my body for that movie, but gave me the skills to change my life. I could never live on a 'diet.' Dalton taught me how to eat, move, and live a delicious but healthy life. I will always thank him for that,” said Jennifer.
She believes in short workouts rather than long ones
Training to act as ‘Mystique’ for her role in X-Men, Lawrence included a full-body workout routine like warm-up, postural circuits, metabolic circuits, and ended with "cool down. Speaking with Women’s Health, she expressed that some of the training includes hamstring stretch, lunge to instep, hip extensions, clams, squats with knees in and out, mountain climbers, etc.
Consistency is the Key
Indeed, the Hunger Games star doesn’t like to work out, but when she does, she’s extremely consistent with her routine. Prepping to get in shape for the Red Sparrow movie, Lawrence trained for three hours a day, six days a week, for three months. That’s 216 hours of workouts across three months.
Surprised? Those aren't her numbers. She used to train for 10-12 hours a day for three months with her trainer for her role as ‘Mystique.’
Breathing exercises are a must
In his book ‘The Feelgood Plan,’ Wong revealed that despite working heavily for her movies, she used to end her day with a proper Yoga session.
‘It's just to help relieve the body so you can sleep better but also be able to be more resilient and be able to train and work the next day,” Wong explains. “Inhale through the nose, filling your lower belly, lower rib cage, then up to your chest and throat. Exhale through the nose for a count of three. Keep a steady rhythm as you repeat the movement.”
Diet can be enjoyable
Unlike many stars, Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t believe in having a strict diet. In her interview with Vogue, she expressed, “For me, it's easier to put that extra effort into the gym instead of putting the extra effort into: 'Oh no, I can't eat that.”
She snacks her way through workouts, but that doesn’t mean she ignores her diet! She simply avoids extreme measures.
While she has openly spoken about her struggles with motherhood, it is certain that her fitness regimen will eventually evolve for sure!
