Floyd Mayweather Demonstrates Punching Technique in Training Session
The undefeated boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather, was spellbinding in his prime. With 27 knockouts under his belt, 'Money' was one of the most technical counter-strikers inside the ring. And his perfectly-timed jabs set the pace of his game.
In a throwback video from when Anthony Joshua joined the American boxer for a training session in Dubai right before the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, Mayweather demonstrated his signature jab to AJ.
That video clip has recently resurfaced online after The Ring Couture posted the footage on Instagram on June 6, 2026, with the caption, "Anthony Joshua Saw Why Floyd Was Untouchable."
In the reel, fans could see 'Money' piercing the punching bag with his punishing bullet jab. In fact, each time the strike made contact with the bag, it made a whip-like sound, highlighting just how powerful his exchanges were.
Don’t mistake those penetrating punches for wild swings. Timing, precision, pinpoint accuracy, and Mayweather’s fight IQ all came into play, making each jab intentional and deadly.
YouTube creator Tony Jeffries explained that the positioning of his guard also played a factor in Money’s lightning-fast strikes. He kept his lead hand half extended, making it faster since the jab needed to travel a smaller distance, Jeffries explained.
That session surely polished AJ's ring skills. But the jab wasn't the only thing Mayweather shared his advice on.
Floyd Mayweather shared some pointers before AJ's Usyk rematch
Anthony Joshua spent the 2021 New Year's Eve training with Floyd Mayweather, intent on settling matters with Oleksandr Usyk after his first disappointing run inside the ring.
Mayweather, who had been ringside to watch Joshua defend his world title against IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev, offered some "pointers" with AJ on the upcoming challenge.
However, beyond the boxing lessons, 'Money' was also extremely vocal on Joshua's training status under Coach Rob McCracken.
"I told him at the beginning when he was undefeated, ‘you’ve got some things you need to tweak because if you don’t, then you may come up short,'" shared Mayweather.
AJ heeded Mayweather’s advice, training under Anthony 'Chill' Wilson for the rematch. Still, Usyk clinched the win via split decision. Despite this disappointment, Joshua has time and time again proved what makes him one of the fiercest predators on the boxing food chain.
