4x Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler Shows Abs at the Age of 52

Jay Cutler may be retired, but his abs surely aren't. Even at 52, the bodybuilding legend flaunts rock-solid abs that give today's generation a reason to pump harder.

@bodybuildingtotal recently uploaded a clip on Instagram from Derek Lunsford's FIBO 2026 vlog featuring the four-time Mr. Olympia. In the video, he was seen giving the current Mr. Olympia champion some posing tips.

And while talking to him, Jay Cutler lifted his shirt to reveal perfectly conditioned abs, better than most people half his age. This happened when Lunsford asked him his opinion on weighted abs offseason, Cutler replied with,

"I don't think you should do weighted ever. I mean, I like rope crunches, but light, just so it's all breathing and squeezing and control, you got to think about it. It's all when you, you know, that's all you practice, right?"

According to Cutler, abs should be trained with lighter resistance so the focus is on squeezing and engaging the muscles properly. In this way, you are in control of your muscles, and it will show during the posing routine, especially during vacuums, quarter turns, and side poses where tightness and detail matter most.

The 52-year-old maintains rock-solid abs, and it is not something that he just has; it is a result of an intense ab workout routine, which includes:

  • Leg Lifts
  • Sit ups
  • Hanging leg raises
  • Crunches on Incline
  • Rope Crunches

“Three sets and then I’ll finish up with a little cardio. I feel really good. I remember Lee Labrada doing these; that’s where I learned these from. Him doing an ab routine for the Muscle and Fitness, but I always feel these in my intercostals, upper, and lower abs.”

According to Cutler, the ab workout is also good for your core, especially for those who suffer from back pain. It also reduces the risk of hernia and improves posture and balance.

Jay Cutler's tips for getting chiseled abs

Jay Cutler says, “Abs aren’t made only in the kitchen. They are also made in the gym.” The 'Comeback Kid' has managed to keep his abs in perfect shape even in his fifties. So, when he gives any tips on building perfect abs, it's a good idea to listen.

“Tips on ab training. I usually train abs every other day, especially when I’m training for a competition. Remember, the abs aren’t going to come out unless the body fat is low. But what is the ultimate rep range for your abs? I always focus on 15-20 repetitions."

He added, "Remember: you’re trying to condition the abs, not necessarily build that muscle, so I feel you need to do those exercises like the crunches, like the ropes, like the hang raises, focus on 15-20 repetitions, condition the abs, get on the diet, and show the best physique. Summer is here.”
