Gabby Logan, 52, Stays Fit and Healthy With Full Body Circuit Workouts

Supported by fitness experts like Kim Hawley and Neil Asher, NIH, and education.

BBC presenter Gabby Logan revealed the seven-exercise circuit keeping her fit at 52. The former gymnast partnered with trainer Rich Birkett to modernize her routine. She uses kettlebells and barbell deadlifts to build strength. Logan shared the update on Instagram to highlight how consistency drives her healthy physique.

“Sometimes you don’t feel like doing it… You’ll find something (anything) to stop you putting on your kit. But you know, if you can shut that inner voice up and get the kit on, you’ll never regret a workout. Consistency is key, we know that.” That's what Gabby Logan admitted through a September 12, 2025, Instagram post.

And that consistency is the secret to the former international gymnast and BBC sports presenter’s fitness and healthy physique, even at 52.

In the post, Logan also shared a montage of photos of herself performing circuit movements, designed by her newly appointed trainer, Rich Birkett, whom Logan recruited to be “very flexible with” her training.

So, the 7 full-body circuit exercises that help her stay fit and healthy include:

  • Kettlebell goblet squat: It helps Logan build lower-body strength, improve thoracic posture, and enhance core stability.
  • Narrow dumbbell press in tabletop: This is beneficial for intense triceps activation, boosting core stability, and addressing muscle imbalance.
  • Single-arm dumbbell plank row: According to Neil Asher, this promotes proper posture by strengthening one’s upper back muscles. It also reduces the risk of rounded shoulders.
  • Push-ups: The benefits of push-ups are well known and include upper-body strengthening, improved posture, and core strengthening.
  • Side plank hip dips: A core exercise for the lateral flexors that strengthens the obliques.
  • Side plank hold: It reduces the risk of back injury and enhances posture and balance.
  • Barbell deadlift: This exercise helps Logan build full-body strength, increase bone density, and build muscle.

According to Logan, these new moves, designed by her new trainer, work for her because, she said, “I need to be very flexible with my training. I was doing strength training before, but I was a bit aimless. Just doing the same thing over and over.

So I told Richard that when I go out on the bike, I want to be better on hills. He worked from that. I’ve loved getting stronger, feeling a bit leaner and remembering the buzz of weights again.”

Even the study “How can strength training build healthier bodies as we age?” published by the NIH in the USA in 2022, showed that circuit training and resistance training can help prevent age-related muscle loss, support overall health, and improve muscle strength.

While her full-body circuit training helps her stay fit and healthy at this age, other healthy habits also support Logan’s philosophy of health.

Gabby Logan shares 3 simple moves that she follows to stay focused and fit

During her appearance on the Open Gym podcast hosted by SW7 Academy on April 9, 2026, Logan revealed her motivation for staying fit.

She said, “I want to be able to keep doing the things I want to do, for as long as I want to do them. Health is the most important foundation for everything. Without our health, we’ve not going to be able to do those things… I want to have games of tennis with my grandchildren when they come along one day.”

Apart from that, the 3 simple moves that she follows include:

  • Strength training, which she also admitted to in the September 12 post.
  • Cardio, including running and biking.
  • Pilates.

According to Kim Hawley, GH fitness expert, “We don’t all have endless time to train, so if you’re prioritizing, aim for strength training around three times per week. Alongside this, include some higher-intensity cardio where your heart rate is significantly elevated two to three times per week.”

Logan often practices Pilates in a studio and prefers to lift weights at home. Logan also advises people who have yet to establish their fitness regime, “If you’re not in the habit of doing it, it’s so hard to imagine. But once you get into it, it’s hard to imagine your life without it… It’s about small steps.

Get into something, whether it’s a couch to 5k or one weight session a week. When you start to see that difference, it makes you can’t help but want to go back.”
