Gina Carano Opens Up on Losing 100lbs Due to the Ronda Rousey Fight
Gina Carano kept the promise she made to herself at the beginning of her training camp. Back in April, when Carano appeared on the Jaxxon Podcast, Mike Bisping asked her how much she weighed. But instead of answering the question, Carano said that she would reveal how much weight she lost for the fight on the day of the weigh-ins.
On May 15, she finally made the big reveal. The Mandalorian star took to Instagram to share a full-body picture of herself, weighing 100 lbs lighter. An emotional caption followed the post, which read,
"I just weighed in at 141.4 lbs. Since Sept 2024 to today, May 15, 2026, I have lost 100 lbs. It hurts to say that and share, but I am going to share it because I worked so damn hard every week for over a year and a half to shed this weight. It did not happen overnight."
The MMA champion shared how she was pre-diabetic last September 2024, and ever since then, she has been working hard on herself. She credited the fight for motivating her to accomplish this task.
"It was hard, SO damn hard... There was so much to learn, too much to unpack here, ups, downs, plateaus, things I learned late I wish I learned earlier, trial by error, but I did it."
Carano even thanked her opponent, Ronda Rousey, for being the motivation behind her weight loss and for waiting patiently while she did so. She thanked her family and her husband while pledging to contribute to the health space, before ending the caption with a sweet message for her followers:
“I pray this encourages you wherever you are in your health journey. Believe there is hope. Never give up.”
Carano started weightlifting again after being fired from her show, The Mandalorian, for posting controversial tweets. During her interview on the Jaxxon podcast, Carano revealed that after her cancellation, she became severely depressed and was suffering from full-body pain.
"It's like it's kind of saving me again, you know, like my health, like pre, I'm saying like the amount of weight I've lost, and uh, that's where my health was at, my blood work. Um, I was pre-diabetic. I was hurting."
With the support of her husband, she started training again in September 2024 and lost 100 lbs over time. She appeared energized as she approached the stage for the official ceremony.
Gina Carano at the Official Weigh-In
At the official weigh-in, Carano stepped on the scale confidently and measured 141.4 lbs, which was even lighter than her opponent, Ronda Rousey, who weighed 142 lbs. Later, she danced towards the stage, looking extremely happy with her achievement.
"If I'm dancing, I'm feeling really good. That was the first victory. I'll give you another victory tomorrow night."
Rousey stepped in with an emotional message but ended it with a witty reply to Carano, "I usually kind of skip this part and get to the end, but it's cool to be here. My very last weigh-in. We're going to prove everyone wrong, and I'll prove everyone right that thinks I'm gonna win."
