Gina Carano Talks About the Most Challenging Part of Her Training Camp

Gina Carano reveals the hardest truth about her comeback: with no backup plan or excuses, it all comes down to her performance in the cage.

"The most challenging part was there's no backup plan here. You're doing this, and there's no excuses," these were Gina Carano's words when she talked about the weight of preparing for the biggest fight of her career.

MVP reached Gina Carano's training facility in Las Vegas to get an update on how the MMA star is preparing for her upcoming fight with Ronda Rousey. But apart from the intense training and recovery process, MVP discovered a much more profound part of her training camp, which no one seemed to notice.

In the brutal world of fight preparation, there comes a time when dedication and talent take a backseat to something bigger: taking personal accountability of what you're about to do, and realizing that you cannot back out of it. So, once you're in, you need to prepare to the best of your abilities and go into the cage fully loaded.

And her mindset was clearly visible in her training. Ever since the fight was announced, Carano has been training day and night for it, and in her training, MMA coach John Woods, boxing coach Chris Ben, training partner Ryan Diaz, and even her husband, Muay Thai trainer Kevin Ross, are helping her become the best version of herself.

The training camp is especially hard for Carano, as she was recovering from the health issues that started after her 2021 controversy. She was depressed, which led to her gaining weight and becoming pre-diabetic. Her entire body was in pain, and the only thing that saved her was restarting her MMA training in 2024.

Now, a fully recovered Gina will be stepping into the cage after so many years. Speaking about her experience of returning to training after 17 years, Carano said, "All of the technique and the style and everything is still there, which is so cute cuz like some of my coaches are like, 'Oh man, you still got it." I'm like, "Well, I hope so."

Everything in Gina Carano’s Training Camp in Las Vegas

MVP got a 20-minute sneak peek at Gina Carano's training camp, which has been underway for many months. In the video, Carano was seen training with her boxing coach Chris Ben, who has been her coach since she started MMA fighting.

The intense training routine needs an even greater recovery routine, and fans got to see some action there as well. Carano was seen using a hyperbaric chamber and also trying the ice bath for the first time.

How the training plays out will only be seen on May 16, when she faces one of the best fighters in female MMA.
