Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg emphasizes the importance of gut health

Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg might train like an action star, but real health, he shared, comes from the inside out. A recent Instagram video he posted highlighted him ending a 48-hour fast with a spoonful of dairy-free probiotic coconut yogurt to support his gut health.

“Gut health is the most important,” Wahlberg captioned his Instagram post, while tagging @thecoconutcult.

Wahlberg believes gut health is the foundation, as no workout delivers results if digestion is compromised. For Wahlberg, nutrition comes before supplements, and he often advocates the importance of nutrient-dense, whole foods.

In his Instagram video, Wahlberg breaks his 48-hour fast with a spoonful of coconut yogurt from The Coconut Cult. The break-fast ritual is deliberate: one spoonful of probiotic yogurt, then blueberries, eggs, and meat—a measured restart after 48 hours.

According to Men’s Health, his typical food choices include:

  • Nuts
  • Chicken
  • Salmon sashimi
  • Steak
  • Salmon
  • Greek yogurt
  • Mixed berries
  • Eggs

Fermented foods and fiber-rich vegetables feed beneficial gut bacteria. Probiotics restore beneficial bacteria; fermented foods improve nutrient absorption

While Wahlberg’s intense workouts often grab attention online, he maintains that good health comes through proper hydration, quality nutrition, and healthy habits. Moreover, he states that consistent, healthy habits are essential for long-term performance and recovery.

While a healthy diet fuels Wahlberg from the inside, he pairs it with a consistent training routine.

How Mark Wahlberg pairs gut health with structured training

To complement his gut-first approach, Wahlberg follows a structured workout routine that prioritizes strength, conditioning, and recovery.

His typical weekly training split includes:

Monday

Chest and arms – 4 sets of 8-12 reps of compound presses and isolation work

Tuesday

Legs and back – 4 sets of 8-12 reps of pull variations, rows, squats, and deadlifts

Wednesday

Cardio – 45-minute HIIT circuit, functional work, treadmill

Thursday

Rest day with active recovery tools like stretching and cold plunging

Friday

Arms and chest

Repeat Monday’s circuit

Saturday

Back and legs – repeat Tuesday’s circuit

Sunday

Rest day

Wahlberg’s physique is a direct result of his workout and nutrition philosophy. Have you ever noticed how you feel groggy and inactive if your gut isn’t clean?
