How Mel C Stays Fit at 52 With Simple Workout Rules and Diet

There are very few celebrities who live up to their on-stage monikers, and one of them is Sporty Spice, Mel C.

The singer-songwriter has been fit and active all her life, and even at 52, she continues to look healthier and younger. The Spice Girl is currently promoting her new single 'Prepare to Sweat', and in tune with that, she took to Instagram to share her workout routine with her followers.

Here is a full breakdown of her routine:

  • Wide-grip pull-ups
  • Assisted pull-ups
  • Sumo barbell deadlifts
  • Hanging straight leg raises
  • Back squats
  • Machine hip thrusts
  • Abduction machine

When it comes to her diet, Mel C follows the 80/20 rule, eating a high-protein diet including whole foods, lean proteins, and complex carbohydrates. But during the weekend, she enjoys flexibility. She doesn't enjoy eating the same thing every day; she keeps mixing things up with her recipes. Her daily food intake includes:

  • Almond milk
  • Cereals
  • Grains
  • Pulses
  • Granolas (homemade)
  • Risottos
  • Dhals
  • Green smoothies

During an interview with BBC Breakfast, Mel C revealed, "I think [my fitness reflects] many years of being active. When I was a kid, I did loads of sports. I've danced. I've just never stopped. Now we know so much more about what's good for us, and we train smarter."

Fitness has been a huge part of Mel C's life from the very beginning. She told The Sun, "I got my nickname Sporty Spice because I have always been sports mad. I remember when I was 14, I broke the school record for the high jump." However, she was first introduced to the gym in 1994 by her friend and Spice Girls bandmate Geri Halliwell.

Besides spending time in the gym, the 52-year-old is also an avid triathlete, something that she picked up in 2011.

Mel C's Tips for a Healthier Life

Mel C shared important tips that she believes help a person live a healthier life. They include:

  • Perform Squats: Squats help improve lower-body strength.
  • Jump: Doing jumps, like using the steps, boxes, or benches, to improve your explosive strength, power, and speed.
  • Spin classes: Join spin classes to increase your stamina.
  • Vertical training: Vertical training, like jogging up a hill or steps to race up, jog down, improves endurance.
  • Don't push hard: Never push your limits. Have rest days to give your body time to recover from training. Do stretching, hot baths, and massages to relieve sore muscles in the body.
