How Ralph Fiennes Achieved Six-Pack Abs in Just 5 Months at 63?
Ralph Fiennes, known for his role as Voldemort, has taken over the internet with his five-month transformation. The veteran actor's impressive physique has become a major talking point online, with many struggling to believe his age.
On May 28, the Men's Active account on Instagram posted a glimpse of Fiennes' new look. The video captured the actor's shredded physique and six-pack abs.
"Fiennes underwent five months of physical training with trainer Dan Avasilcai to play Odysseus in The Return — a 2024 film retelling of Homer’s Odyssey," read the caption.
Fiennes recalled what his director expected of him while offering the role.
“He didn’t want me to have a sort of bulked-up gym body,” he said. “Look like a bit of old rope”—lean, wiry, functional, like a man who had survived a decade of war.
Although Fiennes was initially offered the role in 2011, he accepted it over a decade later. He wanted to be prepared for the physical commitment, which is why, when he finally said yes, he dedicated himself entirely to building the physique that was required.
In the video, Fiennes can be seen doing Battle Ropes, which is challenging even for younger athletes. He also performs push-ups, crunches, and strength-training exercises.
Avasilcai, however, emphasized the importance of injury prevention while training for the role.
“At that age, injury prevention is everything,” he said.
Fiennes’ training program was designed to provide enough stimulus to drive physical adaptation while minimizing the risk of injury or structural strain.
How Ralph Fiennes Built His Shredded Physique
Most people assume getting lean and having abs after 60 is near impossible. However, it is a very achievable goal, taking into account injury prevention and proper recovery.
Fiennes generally gets a head start on his training at 5.30 am. The idea is to divide his workouts into small chunks throughout the day and eat as much protein as he can.
He would ensure to train only one body part per day, going up to just five exercises for each muscle group. However, he finishes strong with a HIIT core workout, as reported by GQ Magazine.
To maintain mobility and posture, Fiennes would take part in ballet lessons once a week. Quite a surprising choice, but effective nonetheless.
A shredded physique and six-pack abs at 63 is quite achievable, as Ralph Fiennes proved. However, it is essential to progress gradually, focus on recovery, and opt for sustainable habits.
