The phrase ‘age like a fine wine’ seems made for Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, who, at 80, doesn’t look a day over 45. His secret? For years, the actor has paid close attention to his body, making adjustments that suit him rather than chasing trends.
“Over the years, I've always been aware that you have to tune into your body and you have to pay attention—your body will tell you what it needs," he said in his recent conversation with Men’s Health.
Due to his age, Ernie Hudson prefers to train his upper body much more than his lower body at the very start of the day. He makes sure to hit his push-up quota, “When I get up, I like to do a set of pushups first thing and throughout the day,” the legendary performer said on Today.
He expressed that he does three rounds of push-ups daily, and the least amount of push-ups he does is 100. To keep his physique in shape, the Ghostbusters star trains with a trainer two to three times a week in Los Angeles. However, when he is on the road, moving, he trains with his son, Ernest Hudson.
During his conversation with Men’s Health, he revealed his upper-body workout schedule, which looks like :
Warmup: Bodyweight Squats to Elevated Plank Walkout
The Workout: Pushup, Seated Row, Barbell Bench Press, Concentration Curls, and Triceps Pressdowns.
Apart from this, he has one specific piece of advice he would like to give to people his age.
“Just Be Flexible,” Ernie Hudson’s Advice to People His Age
While in conversation with Today, Ernie Hudson was asked how much weight he lifts in the gym, to which the Ghostbusters star expressed that it doesn’t matter at his age.
“I just think at this age it's more important to just be flexible to be able to present well, and to do the work that I do, it's required,” Hudson said. “I was working with a good friend who was on a walker, and I thought, ‘You know what, I want to avoid that as long as I can.”
Hudson expressed that the most important thing is to make sure that blood flows to every organ properly: “Aging is inevitable, but in the meantime, let me do what I can do.”
