Jay Cutler Rejects Idea of Winning Mr. Olympia With a Natural Physique
Four-time champion Jay Cutler will forever be respected and revered for ending Ronnie Coleman’s legendary reign in 2006. The bodybuilding icon has shaken up the Mr. Olympia stage in a way that no one else has. He recently shared a strong opinion about modern bodybuilders on the Olympia stage that might have ruffled a few feathers.
During an appearance on the Thinking With A Pump podcast, Cutler stated his opinions on what it takes to reach the very top of the Open division. According to him, size isn’t enough to win the Olympia. Building muscle naturally is merely one aspect of winning, he said. The real challenge is maintaining astonishing amounts of muscle mass while retaining conditioning.
“Can you win the Olympia natural in the Open division? No, you can’t. Because you can’t hold that size and get that condition,” Cutler exclaimed.

“Anyone can get big… But to get chiseled and to have the low body fat, it’s very hard to maintain that,” he added, as per Generation Iron.
His claims reflect the harsh reality that while plenty of bodybuilders build an exceptionally strong and massive physique, few are able to maintain low body fat with it. This is tied to the fact that historically, several elite bodybuilders have admitted to using PEDs while competing.
Furthermore, Cutler himself admitted to using enhancements during his career, noting that young, modern bodybuilders shouldn’t follow the same route. Instead, he believes that they should push themselves naturally to their maximum potential.
His views during the Thinking With A Pump podcast have caught massive online attention, and rightly so. Cutler pointed out that several aspiring athletes chase hollow trends without proper consideration of their side effects.
This, he said, can come at a serious cost, as he has experienced in his youth.
Jay Cutler recalls the hilarious diet mishap that leaves him embarrassed even today
As you may already know, the Olympia stage (and backstage) isn’t as glamorous as it may seem.
According to Generation Iron, Cutler revealed one of his most hilarious and embarrassing stories that stemmed from his obsession with Ezekiel bread.
“I introduced Ezekiel bread into the bodybuilding industry. I would have seven slices every meal,” he said proudly. However, his pride was soon deflated, as he faced a disastrous mishap after eating too much of it.
“I was training back doing T-bar and my stomach… I said, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to s*** my pants.”
Unfortunately, Cutler couldn’t make it home in time, leaving behind a very messy story that he would remember forever.
While the story remains funny, it highlights how bodybuilders should research well before jumping into any crazy trends.
