Jeff Cavaliere shares his secret to stopping muscle cramps fast
The renowned physical therapist, strength/conditioning coach, and influencer, Jeff Cavaliere, knows how muscle cramps can be a serious obstacle in an individual's performance. Hence, he has devised an effective method to stop cramps if the traditional way fails.
Most have witnessed soccer players limping off the pitch due to cramps, as the usual method of ingesting electrolytes to treat them often fails. However, an Instagram update from Cavaliere on July 6 displayed that a different liquid can help with muscle cramps much better than electrolytes. He mentioned that muscle cramps can also happen due to an overactive nervous system, besides physical dehydration.
As a result, Cavaliere advised a neurological reset as the first step to recover from muscle cramps. He said, "The first move should be to hit the neurological reset button by moving your toes up towards your shin. Most importantly, actively moving them in that direction by contracting the muscle on the front of the shin."
Several athletes and gym-goers often resort to this method and follow it up with drinking electrolyte solutions to get rid of muscle cramps. But in many cases, this method doesn't work as expected, and this is where Cavaliere suggested a change.
While electrolyte solutions work well in hydrating the cramped muscle, Cavaliere implied that they often fail to resolve the issue completely since the body needs more than just hydration at such junctures.
The 51-year-old fitness coach suggested a unique alternative to electrolyte solutions.
"But if that doesn’t work, you still got one last panic button: Pickle juice. Take a swig and let the magic happen. No, this doesn’t suddenly replenish lost electrolytes; it works way too fast for that."
Cavaliere also explained the reason behind choosing pickle juice as an alternative to electrolyte solutions.
"The strong vinegar taste actually lights up nerves in your mouth and throat that send a signal back to your nervous system, helping to interrupt the cramp reflex."
Well, the long list of benefits of renowned electrolyte solution brands might make many question Cavaliere's suggestion to use pickle juice instead of those specialized drinks.
However, his resume as a fitness and strength coach says that his ways can be trusted.
Jeff Cavaliere has worked with multiple renowned celebrities
Cavaliere's muscle cramp treatment video is far from being the only one where he provided his insights about a fitness-related issue. The 51-year-old frequently posts similar videos about various other fitness-related topics.
But Cavaliere has also collaborated with multiple noted athletes and performers besides guiding his followers through social media. The list of his clients speaks volumes about the expertise he has in the field.
On August 28, 2023, a YouTube video on Cavaliere's ATHLEAN-X channel displayed him counting the renowned personalities he had worked with. Here's the list:
- David Wright (MLB player)
- Alex Rodriguez (former MLB player and CEO of the alternative investment and holding firm A-Rod Corp)
- Dr. Andrew Huberman (A tenured neurobiology professor at Stanford University and the main mind behind the Huberman Lab podcast)
- Barry Bonds (former MLB player)
- The Rock (WWE and Hollywood star)
- Sheamus (WWE star)
- Sylvester Stallone (Hollywood star)
So, Cavaliere's suggestion to use pickle juice to treat muscle cramps effectively might sound a bit uncanny to many. But after learning about his list of celebrity clients, would you like to doubt his insights?
If not, will you use pickle juice to relieve the next time you experience a muscle cramp?
