Joe Baena Explains Why Bigger Arms Help You Look Bigger

Joseph Baena, the youngest son of the legendary bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger, recently shared his perspective on building bigger arms while providing an update on his participation in a competition.

Recently, on May 25, Baena appeared on the Alex M. Guerra YouTube channel, where he admitted to participating in a bodybuilding competition in November. However, Baena has not revealed the name of the competition.

While doing exercises like the Chest Fly or Machine Fly, Baena talked about the importance of having bigger arms. Baena said,

We'll get the tricep pump, too. We need it, bro. We got to grow the arms. I think if you have big arms, you look huge. Especially even in the likes of the natural guys, they just have good arm genetics. Everything else is okay. But if you have big arms and good arm genetics, man, it goes such a long way.”

Biceps and arms have always been a focus for the son of the Austrian Oak.

According to Men's Health, Baena usually trains his arms with free weights such as EZ bars and dumbbells. However, he recently switched to machine-based curl variations to maximize tension on the arms throughout the exercise.

While Baena has emphasized the importance of having bigger arms, Schwarzenegger’s son also focuses on his overall body movements.

Joe Baena’s overall exercises

Success came to Baena earlier this year. He won his first professional bodybuilding title in March at the NPC Natural Colorado State Championships. Within a week, he also earned a pro card by winning the Iron Gladiator competition in the Classic Physique division.

However, that success did not come easily. Baena worked hard to build his physique and maintained a toned, shredded body. So, what is Baena's overall workout approach?

According to GQ, Baena follows a 5-day training split. Baena said,

“The basic outline for these competitions was a five-day split. Monday is push and biceps. Tuesday is pull and triceps. Wednesday is legs. Thursday is rest from weights, but we do cardio. Friday is upper body, Saturday is lower body, and Sunday is complete rest.”

He also added, “I’m doing cardio about five days a week as well. Monday, Tuesday – I don’t do cardio on Wednesdays on leg day – then Thursday and Friday. On lower body day, I’ll just get my steps in.”

And cardio isn't stressful for him either.

According to Baena, his cardio looks like,

“Walking on the treadmill for 30 to 40 minutes. I know some guys do an hour – I think that’s a bit much, especially if you’re doing this naturally, which I am.

Steady-state cardio on the treadmill or StairMaster. The StairMaster was a game-changer. And if I can’t get to those, I’m in Santa Monica, so I’ll just walk around the neighborhood or along the beach and get my steps in.”
