That is not all. He also appears in the video practicing wrestling under the guidance of coach Ben Cherrington, performing a single-leg takedown drill with training partner Xavier Vasquez.

In the video, Usman was putting a lot of effort and hard work into his upcoming fight. Talking about the practise session and his opponent Plessis, he said, "That felt like a fight, which is great. You need to feel that, especially getting close to competition with a tough opponent."

While the welterweight legend is moving up a weight class, he has some experience fighting at middleweight. He fought Khamzat Chimaev on short notice at UFC 293, losing the closely fought contest. Although training is very important while moving up, so is diet, which is why Usman eats a well-balanced diet.

Kamaru Usman's Diet

The well-balanced and nutritious diet not only provides nutrition to Usman but also fuels his training sessions for his upcoming fight.

According to Total Shape, to meet his nutritional and dietary requirements, he partnered with Clint Wattenberg, the director of nutrition at the UFC Performance Institute. According to a study available at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a well-balanced diet helps prevent injuries.

However, Usman didn’t share any specific diet he is consuming for his upcoming match, but his typical diet contains:

Breakfast

  • Oats
  • Eggs
  • Spinach
  • Mushrooms

Mid-day snacks

  • Almonds
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Protein bar

Lunch

  • Sauteed vegetables
  • Brown rice
  • Grilled steak/chicken

Evening snacks

  • Protein shake

Dinner

  • Sweet potato
  • Grilled chicken
  • Asparagus

This perfectly balanced combination of intense training and healthy eating is the real secret behind Usman's performance. It will be interesting to see whether he wins the match on July 18.
