Kettlebell Halos Workout: How To Build Your Shoulders Safely

Feb 8, 2026, 11:04 PM CUT

While training shoulders, people often ignore mobility, and that’s where the kettlebell halo comes in. A core-training staple, the halo can help build boulder-like shoulders while improving mobility.

But how can you know if you're doing it right? Let’s take a look at how to perform kettlebell halos efficiently, according to Men's Health.

What the Kettlebell Halo Actually Is

Before going into the specifics, let us take a look at what a kettlebell halo actually is. Imagine tracing a halo around your head with a kettlebell, yes, it’s exactly what you’re thinking.

Hold it by the handle and move it around the skull in a controlled manner, keeping the torso stable and the ribs anchored.

Step-by-Step: Halo Execution

The most important aspect of Kettlebell Halo is the stance, stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart. Keep your ribs down, shoulder blades intact, and tighten the core

After that, hold the bell at chest height with both hands on the handle. Make sure to keep the elbows open and soft, not locked.

Then slowly guide the bell over one shoulder, behind your head, over the other shoulder, and back to the front. Keep the Kettlebell closer to the head, but make sure that it doesn’t touch the skull.

Do these movements at your convenience, but make sure to do both clockwise and anticlockwise for equal exposure.

Common Form Killers

Never try to push beyond your limits. Lifting too heavy, too soon, will not only lead to injuries but can also cause muscle deformities. Start light and slow, then gradually increase the weight.

Make sure the circular movement is slow and controlled, as speed will kill any chance of safe gains.

A loose midsection can create strain across the spinal area. To protect yourself from further injury, tighten your abs.

The bottom line is that this workout can be highly beneficial for building bigger shoulders while improving flexibility, but make sure to follow all the steps properly.

So, do you think you need improvements in your method of performing kettlebell halos?
