Lauren Sánchez Bezos talks about losing 1 kg before the Met Gala

Backstories of celebrities appearing at the Met Gala are not unheard of, especially those related to the costumes. And Lauren Sánchez Bezos had to lose some weight to look the best in her attire for the night.

Sánchez Bezos had what she described as the most unusual Met Gala prep ever, and it involved a full firefighter obstacle course. In a Vogue interview on the day of the event, Lauren detailed her prep routine.

She said, "I went to visit the New York Fire Department and did their training," she told Vogue, describing a full obstacle course completed in heavy firefighter gear. It's probably the most unique Met prep ever. It was bananas, but I loved it. I probably lost about two pounds doing it."

Lauren was wrapped in a Schiaparelli gown designed by creative director Daniel Roseberry and styled by Law Roach. The look was a direct reference to John Singer Sargent's 1884 painting Portrait of Madame X, which hangs in the Met itself, thereby tying into the "Fashion Is Art" theme.

The painting has an intriguing history behind it. The painting originally featured a woman wearing a dress, and one of her straps was slipping off her shoulder. hence the outrage and the ridicule – and the artist had to touch up the painting.

This is precisely where Lauren drew inspiration for her look: Nicole Kidman, another honorary co-chair, was one of the fans of this outfit.

Why Lauren Sánchez Bezos Losing 1 kg Before the Met Gala Sparked Outrage?

However, the joke about Lauren Sánchez Bezos FDNY training came at an especially politically turbulent time for the annual Met Gala event.

As a consequence of appointing the Bezoses as honorary members and leading financial backers of the gala, which took place in February, the event was met with fierce backlash that continued to grow amid rising anti-rich sentiment throughout the United States.

The newly elected mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, described as a democratic socialist, did not follow in the footsteps of previous mayors when he chose not to attend the annual gala at the end of April, stating he was “focused on ‘affordability.’”

The social media buzz had already referred to the event as the “Amazon Prime Gala” or the “Bezos Ball.” The protesters had some fun in the streets, where an activist organization called Everyone Hates Elon, inspired by yet another billionaire mogul, conducted a prolonged boycott, putting posters up in subway cars and on buses.

On Sunday, the eve of the Gala, the group projected video interviews with Amazon workers onto the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and the Bezoses' own penthouse near Madison Square Park. "If You Can Buy the Met Gala, You Can Pay More Taxes," read one projection.

Anna Wintour spoke in favour of the couple, lauding Lauren for her passion for costumes and "obviously fashion," thanking her for her "extraordinary generosity."

On the other hand, Lauren explained to Vogue magazine that she thought it was an honor "to help in some small way."

So, do you also view the Bezos family's association with the Met Gala as a criticizable issue?
