LeBron James Backs Lindsey Vonn's Road to Recovery From Muscle Loss
After her devastating crash at the Winter Olympics, Lindsey Vonn has started her long road to recovery. And as he posted the first few updates, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James dropped encouraging words for Vonn.
On March 6, Vonn shared a video on Instagram updating fans on her condition after the brutal crash, showcasing the first of her rehab exercises. She captioned it, "Definitely some hard times, but still thankful… still working hard. The only goal is to get healthy. One day at a time. #icandothis."
There's a reason behind the massive support. Her crash in Milano Cortina resulted in five-surgeries, with one procedure taking six hours to reconstruct her leg.
But that's not all. There was the risk of compartment syndrome, wherein trauma causes swelling and pressure to build up inside the muscle. If it hadn't been treated in minutes, it could have resulted in permanent nerve damage!
And while she won't be able to put pressure on the left limb, it hasn't kept Vonn from starting the recovery process. As we saw in the video, she even made an attempt to stand all by herself. But this will be the first step to recovery.
The Road Ahead Seems Difficult
The first part of her recovery process was some degree of movement. To ensure that the joint doesn't stiffen, there was a need for immediate movement, and Vonn fulfilled that.
Now, the next goal will be dealing with the ACL tear. Vonn is evaluating if she will have surgery to deal with the same.
Acknowledging the work she will have to put in, she wrote on Instagram, "Home sweet home. Feels good to sleep in my own bed…. I’m focused now on therapy and getting healthy. It’s going to be a hard and painful journey, but I am putting all of my energy into it, like I always do."
