Lee Priest Highlights the Value of Meal Prep: “It Will Make a Big Difference”

On 31st December 2025, Australian bodybuilding icon Lee Priest said one key habit will make all the difference for anyone struggling with their diet.
On the Sam's Fitness - Gym Equipment YouTube channel, Priest explained that meal prep helps you get closer to your goal physique faster.
“The main thing is, too, like, I said, if you have those prepared meals and stuff ready to go… You’ll find you stick to it more too," said Lee Priest. The former IFBB pro added that not having something prepared when you're hungry may actually hurt your progress.
"I find there’s nothing worse than when you are hungry, and there’s nothing prepared…. That’s when you go for the s*** food," said the bodybuilding veteran.

"If you have stuff ready to go, healthier snacks, and stuff like that, it will make a big difference. I’ve looked in the fridge and go, I don’t want to cook this steak. Oh, f***, I’ll have some cashews and a bag of chips. How that equates to a meal, I don’t know," he added.
The 53-year-old also suggested avoiding the grocery store if you're hungry. "The amount of s*** I put in my cart or the amount of s*** I’m eating while walking around, I got custard tarts going in, I’m thinking, what the f*** am I getting this all for? By the time I get home, I don’t want a meal, I’ve eaten so much s*** walking around the store."
So what did the bodybuilding veteran eat when he relied on meal prep during his competitive career?

The Blond Myth also gave some insights into his go-to meals during the podcast.
“Just put a little bit of pink salt on the rice... Steak and rice with a bit of pink salt on it, to me, that tastes so good. I don’t like sauces on steak," said Priest.
"Sometimes, I’d have rice where I’d cut up those shallot-type onions and mix it in, and little things like that just to give it a bit of taste," he said, recollecting his meal prep.
Besides this particular dish, Priest also gravitated toward whole foods, instead of processed or ultra-processed options. So it's safe to say that while meal prep may look like extra work, it's something Priest has relied on maintain his physique even beyond competitive bodybuilding.
