Lewis Hamilton at 41: How the F1 Star Maintains His Rock-Solid Core and Abs Strength
Lewis Hamilton is pushing his physical limits for the 2026 F1 season with a brutal new core regimen. The seven-time champion recently shared his intense ab-roller routine as part of a longevity-focused program designed to combat extreme G-forces. Following a podium finish at the Chinese GP, Hamilton’s high-intensity approach is already yielding results on the track.
Despite being 41 years old, Lewis Hamilton has maintained his physical health, and by the looks of it, it looks like he is here to stay for another 10 years. He maintains a dedicated fitness routine, and it shows in his physique.
On April 21, just weeks before the Miami GP, Hamilton was seen immersed in an intense core and ab workout. He shared a video on Instagram that showed him using an ab roller and performing various movements. And by the faces he made during the workout, it seemed brutal.
The core strengthening exercises featured in the video were:
- Side panel
- Unilateral flexion with slider
- Pike toe taps
In one of his articles for Masterclass, Lewis Hamilton emphasized the importance of core strengthening in F1. According to him, core stability is the center of everything in the sport; it's important to ready your body for moving side to side, hitting flexors and glutes during acceleration with the pedals.
"You also need to be able to move, make the smallest adjustments in how much throttle you use. It's not just 100% enough. You're going on a couple of percent, coming off a couple of percent to help balance the car."
The Briton is a fitness enthusiast in general as well. In a conversation with Men's Health magazine, the seven-time F1 Driver's champion once revealed, "When I was younger, I think the training was really my therapy – and it still kind of is, particularly the runs. That’s where I get most of my thinking done."
At 41, his training routine is all about longevity. The current one includes HIIT, weightlifting, and resistance training, especially for the neck, considering the G-forces that drivers pull on the track. His training and recovery routine mostly includes:
- Bench press or pec deck
- Mobility in the morning or at night
- Cold plunge or sauna
- Tarp on or tarp off
What Hamilton has added to his routine are running, ice baths, yoga, meditation, pilates, stretching, neck training, and breathwork. He is very particular about his recovery and sleep.
How Did Lewis Hamilton Train for the 2026 F1 Season?
Right before the Australian GP, Hamilton shared a video on his Instagram page captioned,
"This is the most I’ve ever trained between seasons. I’m pushing hard every day to show up stronger than ever this year. With lifting, cardio, flexibility, and strength training, everything is about progress, endurance, and going further than the day before. See you soon, Melbourne."
The post was a slideshow of various videos of the Briton performing cardio, core, and strength training exercises. The video featured his core workout using an ab roller and his running sessions on various routes.
So far, the training has proved fruitful as he won his first podium of the season at the Chinese GP. Let's see what the rest of the seasons hold for him.
