Lindsey Vonn just hit another milestone in her recovery. And this one brought her to tears.

The Olympic skiing legend shared on Instagram that she was back on a road bike for the first time since her devastating Olympic crash. 

"First time back on a road bike …I cried. I'm happy and thankful.  #onestepatatime," Vonn wrote on her Instagram post caption..

It wasn't just a casual ride. For Vonn, getting on that bike represented real, tangible progress after one of the most serious injuries of her career.

The injury dates back to February 2026, during the women's downhill at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Vonn crashed just 13 seconds into her run. The fall left her with complex fractures in her left leg, a broken right ankle, and complications serious enough that doctors had to work to save the limb after she developed compartment syndrome.

The road back has been slow by design. Vonn spent months relying first on a wheelchair, then crutches, moving through a structured rehab program one stage at a time. Activities most people never think twice about became genuine milestones along the way.

Vonn has stayed transparent through the entire process, sharing both the hard days and the small wins. That honesty has resonated with fans who've followed her through years of comebacks and setbacks. This latest post fits that same pattern: understated, honest, and focused on the process rather than any specific date of return.

For now, the priority remains healing. There's still rehab to finish, strength to rebuild, and bigger decisions to make down the line. The road bike won't be the final milestone in this recovery. But on this day, as per the Instagram post, two wheels and a few quiet tears of relief were enough.

The World Cup circuit is where Vonn truly separated herself. She racked up 84 career wins, once the record for a woman, alongside 145 career podiums and four overall World Cup titles. Her 20 Crystal Globes stood as a record at the time, including eight downhill titles and five Super-G titles.

Vonn also holds the record for most World Cup downhill wins by a woman at 45, along with 28 Super-G victories. She became the oldest woman to win a World Cup race at age 41 during the 2025/26 season.

Her career, spanning from 2002 through 2026, is defined by dominance, longevity, and a series of remarkable comebacks from injury.
