Liz Earle's Time-Efficient Weekly Workout Routine & How It Benefits In Her 60s

Consistency is what keeps Liz Earle, the fitness expert, on track in her 60s.

On May 28, she shared a YouTube video outlining her time-efficient weekly workout routine and its benefits at this age.

In the video, Earle said, “You do not need to spend hours in the gym – I certainly don’t. But what you do need is a bit of consistency.”

So, the weekly routine that Earle shared includes:

Monday

Earle’s Monday is dedicated to a home strength workout. She has dumbbells in her home gym and follows her strength session under the guidance of her personal trainer, Michael Garry.

However, during travel, she uses her body weight for resistance and follows the strength training routine, which includes movements like:

  • Squats
  • Countertop push-ups.

She suggested using home products like bags of potatoes as extra weights.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, Earle follows an endurance and cardio routine. Depending on her time, she goes for a long walk or run, or does walk-sprint intervals.

She said, “I’ll make it (the walk) quite explosive. I’ll do a little bit of a walk and then a sprint and then a bit more of a walk and then a sprint. It’s these fast, reactive movements that the body likes.

The body – a bit like the gut microbiome – loves diversity. It doesn’t like it when we do the same thing time and time again; if you’re a tennis player and you’re always playing tennis using the same movements, the body doesn’t respond as well to that as it does (to variety).”

Midweek

Midweek is dedicated to flexibility, mobility, and more cardio.

Earle said, “It’s not prescriptive, but maybe later in the week, I might do a bit of yoga or Pilates. Maybe that’s online – I’ve got various free apps downloaded which are really helpful.”

Often, she goes for a short run with her personal trainer, or, if she is near a gym, she visits it for a treadmill run.

Friday

On this day, she mostly focuses on agility, balance, and power. Earle often spends some time skipping or jumping.

Saturday

This day is dedicated to an outdoor walk and yoga.

She said, “On a Saturday morning, I do an hour-long online yoga class.” According to her, the opening movements include yoga.

On Saturday afternoon, Earle goes for a walk.

Sunday

Sunday is for rest and recovery.

According to her, it helps, “To allow your body to take on board all the changes and strength work you’ve done and actually translate that into helping to build that strong body.”
