Ludi Lin Reveals 40-pound Weight Gain for Mortal Kombat II Transformation

We have all heard of weight-loss transformations, but it’s not often that we come across weight-gain transformations as dramatic as Ludi Lin’s.

On a recent podcast with Men’s Health’s Strong Talk, the Power Rangers star shares his intense transformation journey of gaining 40 pounds for his new role in Mortal Kombat II. Host Ebenezer Samuel reacted with surprise at Lin’s physical growth, praising his immense transformation.

Lin explores how he went from 165 pounds to 205 pounds in six months, combining specially curated workouts and a physique-enriching diet to gain muscle mass. However, he stressed how his transformation was not simply about 'getting bigger'.

He attributes his transformation mainly to his diet, although he tweaked his training considerably to help him achieve his final goals.

Shifting from functional training to bodybuilding training and hypertrophy, he curated a phased workout routine for himself.

“In my mind, there’s no thing as perfection, only progression. You should always be making progress towards something.”

I find that in training, inevitably, you hit a plateau at a certain point, no matter what you're aiming for, and then that's the time to switch directions and make progress towards something else, " he added.

Interestingly, he also mentions how he prefers training with higher weights and lower reps, as doing the opposite can often feel “boring” to him.

Just like the hosts of the podcast, fans are also eager to find out the secret behind his transformation.

Breakdown of Ludi Lin’s Weight Gain Transformation

According to Lin, a consistent format and an enriching diet helped prepare him for his role. His focus area was hypertrophy, which helped build strong muscle fibers and achieve fuller-looking muscles, while building strength and endurance.

He always talks about how important it is to mix up workouts, opting for a combination of martial arts drills, mobility and conditioning movements, and explosive lifting.

Lin broke into a laugh as he spoke about preference in training.

“I think it’s about what you find enjoyable. That’s like the secret to fitness."

Lin also used a calculated caloric surplus so that he wouldn’t add excess fat to his structure. He did not allow his vegan diet to be restrictive, hitting his protein goals with natural, plant-based foods.

He ensured he got enough carbs and fats by consuming fruits like bananas and avocados. As for supplements, he stuck to plant-based calcium and Vitamin D.

Lin's latest movie, Mortal Kombat II, entered theatres globally on May 8, 2026, and fans will be excited to see his transformation.
