Mike Chandler still has elite power in the gym
Former Bellator lightweight champion Mike Chandler is undeniably one of the UFC’s hardest-hitting lightweights. His relentless fighting style and explosive strength have always been talked about. Even during the offseason, Chandler continues to prove his trademark explosiveness through intense gym sessions.
On Monday, Chandler shared an Instagram post documenting his intense gym workouts. From explosive medicine ball throws to hex bar deadlifts, shrugs, and hanging drills, Chandler’s intensity looked unmatched.
The post, captioned “Not slowing down. Walk On. See you at the top!” showcases his never-give-up mindset.
Chandler continues training at a high level, despite all the physical demands of his career. Moreover, he constantly encourages others to stay steady and persevere throughout any challenge.
In his most recent competition, he suffered a first-round TKO loss at the UFC Freedom 250 against Mauricio Ruffy. Chandler may not have booked his next UFC appearance, but his latest training videos prove how he is staying match-ready.
How Mike Chandler prepares himself for matches
Mike Chandler's fitness routine is a year-round deal, not something he just does before big matches. He prides himself on being a strong contender and is vocal about his abilities.
“I’m not afraid to say that I’m the world’s best lightweight and that I’d beat Conor McGregor,” the UFC lightweight has said (via Muscle and Fitness).
His typical training camp can be quite intense, with Chandler often training five times a week, twice a day, and once on Saturdays.
He admitted to engaging in MMA training every day except Sundays, which he keeps for rest and recovery. Moreover, he spends three days a week working on his grappling and striking drills.
Other exercises he engages in include:
- Squats
- Trap bar deadlifts
- Medicine ball slams
- Box jumps
- Mobility and stability drills
When asked about his diet, Chandler made a surprising admission. He said,
“As I’ve gotten older, I realize that 80% of my weight management is having good supplementation and nutrition.”
He relies on a balanced diet of healthy fats, lean meats, and vegetables. Furthermore, he takes supplements like amino acids, turmeric and ginger powders, multivitamins, and protein powder.
One of the most important aspects of his training is the recovery period. From foam rolling (before and after each practice session) to weekly chiropractor visits and sports massages, Chandler takes his recovery very seriously.
