Mike O'Hearn Reflects on the Importance of Post-Workout Recovery & Therapy

Mike O'Hearn is 57 years old and has the body of someone half his age. But how is that possible? The veteran bodybuilder recently revealed a truth that many athletes learn when it's too late: pushing your body should only be done when you follow it up with recovery.

In a long caption that began with him, reminding everyone that his own career is built on longevity, discipline, and building a long-lasting body, he had an important message to share.

"After decades of pushing at the highest level, the wear is real. Joints, connective tissue, recovery. That is where Stem Cell Therapy comes in. Not to replace the work, but to support it. To repair, recover, and keep the body moving the way it was built to move."

O'Hearn was at RejuveStem, a centre for Regenerative Medicine, and preaching a very important lesson. In an era obsessed with glorifying brutal grind and never-ending intensity, he is steering the conversation in a different direction: recovery.

In the post caption, O'Hearn also stated the reason for his change in ideology. He doesn't just train for himself; he is a father who wants to be actively involved in his son's life. He wants to play with him, train with him, and live each moment with him, rather than just spectating from the sidelines.

But apart from Stem Cell Therapy, what else does O’Hearn do for recovery?

Mike O'Hearn's Tips For Recovery

O’Hearn himself wrote about his recovery routine on the Muscle and Fitness website. Here are some of the things that he does regularly.

Sleep: The veteran bodybuilder sleeps for seven to eight hours each night to get a well-rested body.

Nutrition: Make sure you're consuming the right amount and type of calories. They need to be consistent with your training. That's because everyone is different and responds differently to macronutrients.

Stretching: Regular massages and stretching should be a part of every training routine as we age. That's because bodies tighten up with age, which increases the risk of injury.

Supplements: Make sure to take the following supplements for recovery: Glutamine, BCAAs, Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex, and Vitamin D3.

Mental health:  You need to be mentally active when you’re in the gym, but your mind also needs rest.
