Mila Kunis Lost 20 Lbs in 5 Months but Regained It for Poor Eating Habits After Black Swan

Hollywood transformations oftentimes come at a hefty price, or at least bring with them drama! And Black Swan star Mila Kunis lived it firsthand.

Playing a rookie NYC ballet dancer, she dropped 20 pounds for the role, only to regain it within days. The twist? She let herself go after the shoot.

While sitting down with Collider to answer questions about her Black Swan days, Kunis was asked, “How relieved were you when this film was over, so that you could just go pig out on food?” And the answer wasn't something expected.

“It took me five months to lose 20 pounds, and it took me hours to gain it back. It was magical, how quickly it all happened,” the actress said. The culprit? She couldn’t wait to go and try out all of her delicious cravings.

“Before production ended, the last time I had to do any sort of dancing, I ran home that night and had a massive bowl of mac and cheese. I was so excited,”

Well, that’s not all, the first thing she did after the production ended was grab a mouthful of food at “Panda Express at the airport terminal, at Virgin America at JFK.” Then, when she landed in L.A., she drove straight into the In-N-Out drive-through, “had a double-double, animal style with a root beer float, and it was fantastic.”

Well, can you blame her? After five months of strict dieting and workouts, she finally let her inner child take over her. However, what was her diet that helped her shed 20 pounds in five months? Well, let’s hear it from her.

“Very Little Eating,” Said Mila Kunis on Her Black Swan Diet

Last year, Kunis spoke with Vogue about her Black Swan era during the film’s 15th anniversary, highlighting the intense schedule she endured.

“My prep was a lot of dancing and very little eating — which I know you’re not supposed to say, but it’s the truth. I drank a lot of broth and danced for 12 hours a day,” said Kunis.

Kunis later revealed that originally they had three months of prep time before the movie started shooting, but due to some financial issues, it got extended to six months. “It sucked for Darren(Director), but Nat (Natalie Portman) and I were so happy because we had three extra months to dance,” she concluded.

Darren’s bet paid off, as the movie grossed $330 million worldwide on a modest $13 million budget. And not to forget the critical acclaim that both Kunis and Portman earned.

What do you think about this? Do you think it's time we avoid such diets and find more sustainable ways? Or do you think Hollywood roles require such sacrifices!
