MMA Fighter Taila Santos Took Her Husband’s Pills by Mistake
Brazilian Mixed Martial Artist Taila Santos recently revealed the truth behind her six-month suspension from her sport due to a doping offense that she committed. The rationale, however, is somewhat peculiar to her case.
Santos was due to have a clash with Juliana Velasquez, but she got caught up in some trouble in March 2025 when she tested positive for oxandrolone and clenbuterol. This caused her to lose out on the competition, and her career has been hanging in the balance ever since.
"My husband is a bodybuilder, so he uses anabolic steroids," Santos explained. "We were rushing to go train, and we get all our compounded supplements from the same place. In the rush, I ended up taking one of his by mistake."
Before her comeback in the cage, this is what she had to say in her defense on MMA Fighting. She shamelessly threw all the blame on her husband for the possession of his steroid pills.
Taila Santos Returns With a Bang After Husband's S****** Mix-Up Suspension
According to the USADA, Santos' body system did not have traces of negligible amounts of substances. Various substances and their metabolites of several prohibited substances were detected in her samples collected during the fight on March 21, 2025.
It is worth noting that oxandrolone and clenbuterol belong to the group of anabolic agents that should not be used by any PFL athlete.
The USADA issued a six-month suspension to Santos for breaching the PFL Anti-Doping Policy.
Santos received a six-month penalty for breaching the PFL Anti-Doping Policy. In light of the circumstances and since there was a reasonable explanation for her unintentional intake, the penalty is relatively small. This means that USADA probably believes something about her story, or maybe there was no evidence of her deliberate doping.
Before joining PFL, Santos had been fighting for UFC titles. She was supposed to fight against Juliana Velasquez in the PFL quarterfinals, but she was pulled out because of substance use.
Before that, she competed in the 2024 PFL Women's flyweight championship final, where she suffered a TKO loss to Dakota Ditcheva, one of the most famous names in the PFL roster.
Santos wasted no time after she returned from a devastating loss. She made a statement by finishing Qihui Yan after landing a devastating body kick on her, then following up with some strikes at PFL Sioux Falls on May 2, 2026.
It took her only two minutes to claim an absolute win. She was fighting after not fighting since November 2024. Santos now has 23 wins and 4 defeats to her name.
At present, Taila Santos has returned to the cage, the winners' circle, and a narrative that will make many talk in the world of MMA for quite some time.
