From fast food cravings to a refined diet plan, Chris Paul's nutritional journey has been just as remarkable as his basketball career.
In an interview with Men's Health magazine, the former point guard painted a vivid picture of his diet during his early days, and it is very different from what he eats today.
"Well, I was 19 and 20 years old when I came in. So, I used to make a stop at a fast food restaurant every, every single day before practice and get a couple hash browns, a large orange juice. Right after the game, I'd probably have some chicken wings. And my weakness is still French fries. That's, my guilty pleasure."
But the physical demands of the game changed his relationship with food. He remarks that the biggest change in his diet came in 2019 when he shifted to a plant-based lifestyle full-time. His dietary change focused less on restriction and more on openness to try new things.
Subsequently, he stated, "There's so many foods that once upon a time in life, I would have never tried. I never used to like avocados. That was a no for me. But as I got older, my palette changed, and it continues to change. But you got to be really open-minded to try new things."
Still, French fries hold a special place in Paul's heart, and they co-exist perfectly with avocados in his diet. Chris Paul's reflection on his diet is proof that excellence often starts with the choices that are made away from the court.
How Does Chris Paul Adhere to His Diet on His Trips
Maintaining a certain diet in the comfort of your own home is one thing, but adhering to it when you are travelling is a difficult task, but not for Chris Paul.
When asked how he sticks to his diet during away games, he said DoorDash and Postmates are his go-to places to find what he wants, and hotel room services are also helpful.
"But I'm grateful, like I said, to have my team call ahead to the hotels, find out what they're have on their room service menu, find out the different oils and everything that they're cooking with."
Chris also reiterated the fact that he makes sure to make healthy choices without being too picky about food and annoying people around him.
So, are you also thinking of altering your diet according to your current requirement like Paul altered his?
