NFL star Blake Corum powers through intense offseason agility workout
There is a reason why Blake Corum is known as one of the most explosive backs in the league. The NFL star is putting in some serious grind this offseason.
Corum shared a short workout video on his Instagram account on Monday. In it, he was seen sharpening and honing his explosive ability, working through a high-intensity training circuit.
This kind of circuit and plyometric training is supervised by Kevin Johnson, an elite sports performance coach and trainer. He runs Team Ascension; he uploaded that video in a collaborative post with Corum.
"Blake is fully bought in, fully healthy, and looking forward to entering training camp ready to make an assault on the NFL. πͺπΎπ," Corum captioned the IG post.
In the short video, Corum is seen performing a variety of explosive plyometric movements and training his reflexes. Fast footwork using a resistance band, kip jumps, hurdle jumps, controlled abductor training, and a number of moves after the jumps as well.
The training is centered around the central nervous system to become more twitchy, more explosive, and more efficient at processing cognitive reactions while making split-second decisions under pressure.
Corum has earned his stripes for his quickness and explosiveness to the hole. This sort of off-season training is more focused on improving the very skills that make him dangerous come football season than anything else.
Blake Corum's next challenge goes beyond explosiveness
The explosive and agility work during the offseason is only one side of the story for Blake Corum. His bigger role with the Rams as a Running Back might not look that flashy; he is meant to catch passes out of the backfield and rush through the opposition.
Noted by Ramblin' Fan, Corum's sessions and workloads have significantly increased in his second season; the change in numbers is quite noticeable, with his carries jumping from 58 to 145 and his rushing yards climbing from 207 to 746.
Although his receiving numbers did not see such a significant rise, with just eight catches for 36 yards and a success rate that dropped sharply from his rookie year.
Modern-day NFL backfield runners don't run in one dimension; that is history and not rewarding nowadays. Corum, if he can close out even a small part, it would set him apart from a true even split with Kyren Williams.
Along with that explosive development tool in his bag this offseason, only the sky is the limit for Corum.
Do you think Corum can round out his game as an RB this season?
