Chiefs fans, assemble! Patrick Mahomes' road to recovery seems to be coming to an end soon. On March 25, the Chiefs' Instagram account posted a video of their star quarterback immersed in a practice session for the first time after his ACL injury in December last year.
In the video, Mahomes is seen running through the quarterback motions with a black brace on his left leg. Kansas City wrote "QB1 back in the lab" on the video screen, tagging Mahomes in the caption. The #15 Chief had shared the video on his Instagram stories with the caption, "Day by day! Great being able to throw the ball around today!"
On December 14, 2025, Patrick Mahomes tore his left ACL in the 4th quarter of a game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The injury was later confirmed as an ACL tear, which effectively ended his 2025 season. The Chiefs eventually lost the game, losing their chance of reaching the playoffs.
Mahomes had to undergo surgery for his tear and has been in rehab ever since. He told People magazine, "The doctor kind of gives you goals to get to. I just try to maximize those; they hold me back, because I always want to go a little bit further."
He hopes to be ready for the Week 1 opener, noting that even doctors seem optimistic, but he’s still taking a cautious approach in training.
NFL fans react to Patrick Mahomes' return to training
The video breathed new life into NFL fans who had been distraught after his injury. Seeing their favourite back on the grid got them excited for this year.
One user commented, "Way to go, Mahomes." Another one chimed in with "MAHOMES IS READY."
Another fan wrote, "I need whatever type of medication they give him."
Even fans of the rival teams were excited for his return, "I'm a Chargers fan, and I hope to see my man Patrick at it ASAP. Much respect"
Some fans even praised him for his dedication to training with comments like, "100 days post ACL surgery and he’s throwing... no other athlete could come close to this type of recovery."
While most fans were celebrating his return, one concerned fan was out giving Mahomes precautionary tips: "Don’t rush the process, Mahomes, your time will come, my guy, and when you do, who’s gonna stop you and the Kansas City Chiefs!!!"
