Dorian Yates' intense training and diet schedule for his performances might be too much to follow for most, but even the 6x Mr. Olympia's off-season diet stands out, containing about 7000 claories.
On February 12, an Instagram update from DYNutrition featured Yates revealing that his off-season diet comprised of 6,500-7,000 calories each day. The caption to the post read, "Ever wondered what Dorian’s off season diet was like? Here it is! At his heaviest, he was eating around 6,500-7,000 calories each day."
The six-time Mr. Olympia revealed that he used to start his day with oats, "Off-season, 200 grams of oats. 12 egg whites, four egg yolks, two bananas, breakfast. A couple of hours later, I’d have a protein shake. Then, about an hour, hour and a half after that protein shake, then I’m in the gym training."
Yates disclosed his post-training session consumption, saying, "After training, I’d have a shake with some dextrose and some whey protein, and I’ll take my aminos and creatine at that time."
Well, getting home didn’t really mean resting for Yates; it was time for round two with his meal. “I would drive home, and at home I would have chicken or turkey breast normally. Rice, vegetables, sleep, get up, another protein shake, some rice," said the 63-year-old. "Maybe three hours later, have some beef, sweet potato, veggies."
That’s not all, Yates further shared that just before hitting the bed, he used to have another 12 egg whites, yolks, and oatmeal.
All in all, His estimated daily intake came to roughly 435–460 grams of protein, 470–520 grams of carbohydrates, and around 75–85 grams of fat during the offseason phase.
That said, he used to consume this years ago, and he is still looks jacked for a 63-year-old. The reason? His workouts.

Yates is past his prime; however, he still looks like he could give the younger competitors a beating. But does he miss being that big again? Well, it’s quite the opposite for him. “Probably the number one question I get asked is, "Don’t you miss being that big?” he wrote on his Instagram post.
He further added, “My answer is always the same… no. Competitive bodybuilding and everything that came with being an elite athlete was a phase of my life, it was temporary.” Yates stressed that he still trains to this day, going to the gym regularly, but apart from that, he also focuses on mobility.
“I’m still training 2x per week with weights, but also other forms of exercise like pilates, yoga, biking etc,” Yates concluded.
Shifting his focus away from the gym, he is looking for new ways to stay fit and healthy. But do you think you will be able to keep up with Yates' 6500-7000 calories diet for the off-season?
