Retired WWE Star Ryback Reveals Fitness Strategy Behind 300-Pound Physique
Most wrestlers fade after retirement. Ryback Reeves didn't. He stormed the WWE ring with his muscular powerhouse, ultimately winning the Intercontinental Championship in 2015. Since then, Reeves has retired from the sport, yet ignoring his herculean physique is never simply an option.
Reeves competed at around 300 lbs. Even a decade later, he has maintained both his sheer size and athleticism. In a recent Instagram post on May 29, the 44-year-old shared the training regimen behind that look.
"Right around 295 to 298 pounds consistently right now, and feeling really good," he updated his fanbase. Furthermore, the WWE star shared that he has upgraded his zone 2 cardio routine alongside more vigorous HIIT workouts, which he admits is already making a difference.
He also incorporates heavy lifting, following a bodybuilding split that prioritizes mobility and cardiovascular health as much as muscles and athletic ability. Ryback is known for high-volume sessions, squeezing in as many as 50 to 60 sets in a single day at times.
Consistency and discipline also play an important role in maintaining his near 300 lbs physique. Moreover, the retired WWE phenom doesn't skimp on his recovery either.
In the video clip he shared, Ryback could be seen inside the hot tub, allegedly for 30 minutes, preparing physically and mentally for a chest and cardio workout.
However, despite his passion for a physically fit body, much to fans' dismay, Ryback has shut the door for a WWE return once and for all.
Ryback confirms he has moved on from wrestling for good
Fans have asked for years whether the 'Big Guy' was ever returning to WWE, even beyond the ring in some other role.
Especially since it's not rare for retired wrestlers to assume the role of a commentator, manager, or some other backstage personality in the promotion.
That only feels like the logical next step for someone who has had such a terrific run as Ryback. However, the wrestler recently posted a throwback SmackDown backstage video on Instagram, explaining why he won't return in a non-wrestling role.
"Well, we tried that once, and it didn't work out too well," he exclaimed. The experience just didn't click.
Wrestling also remains out of the conversation, with Reeves having suffered multiple lasting injuries throughout his career. Clearly, Ryback is now focusing on his health and recovery, and has left the stage in the rearview mirror for good.
