Ronda Rousey Parallels Herself to Gina Carano: “Could Reclaim Our Bodily Identities”
Ronda Rousey returns to the cage against Gina Carano on May 16. The Intuit Dome matchup marks a pivotal moment for both fighters to reclaim their identities. Rousey describes the legacy-defining bout as fate.
This combat will be about more than victory; it’s about identity and rewriting her legacy alongside Carano. On April 16, Rousey appeared on the Against the Cage, New York Post Sports podcast with Scott Fontana and opened up on the upcoming match.
Rousey described this fight as something that “feels like fate.” She added that both she and Carano have gone through highs and lows of public perceptions. She recalled the time of her pregnancy and said, “I watched an interview when I was nine months pregnant.”
The Expendables 3 actress added that Carano “wasn't in a good place” and “wasn't feeling healthy.” So, she said, “could reclaim our bodily identities together, and we could be the most viewed MMA fight of all time, and we could rewrite our endings together.”

Fontana further asked how she would strike a balance between respect and fighting while fighting against “The Mandalorian” actress. In response, Rousey said that as soon as she entered the cage, her friendship mode would be switched off, because inside the cage, there are no friends.
This shows that, although she has great respect for Carano, she is mentally prepared to fight and dominate her on Fight Night.
So, to prove her dominance over the contender at Intuit Dome, Rousey is training hard.
Ronda Rousey’s Training
On February 18, Ronda Rousey posted a video of her intense training and recovery routine on her YouTube channel. In the video, her session included:
- Practicing defending techniques
- Shoulder throwing
- Grappling
- Pad work
Now, after an intense training session, it's time to recover. For this, Rousey incorporated:
- Red light therapy
- Ice bath (10 minutes)
On March 18, she posted another video on her YouTube channel, in which she shared some light-hearted and comedy books she will read during her recovery.
This active recovery method helps the MMA athlete prepare for the next day’s hard work, as her high-stakes match with Carano is coming soon.
Rousey has outlined a structured approach to both training and recovery ahead of the May 16 bout.
